Will we see a wall robot?
84" is a huge max config, a team can basically block a whole rack, and make it a total pain to score..
If I was 3x as wide as you, I don't care how fast you were... I could block you all day. I'd name him wall-E :D Why haven't we seen a wall robot yet? |
Re: Will we see a wall robot?
Look up 3553, their robot "Dragonfly" is as close to a wall as anyone is going to make.

Re: Will we see a wall robot?
I was thinking they should put up a net to block feeder tosses.

That would be awesome. Seeing as there is no max height throw up a 20 ft wall then again you'd want to be careful not to block yourself I've wanted to see a robot tosser that takes tubes and throws it to the other end. If they landed on a peg they would count :) |
Re: Will we see a wall robot?
Does anyone know where a video of 3553? If you can that would be nice:)

Re: Will we see a wall robot?
great strategy for a younger team!
I wonder if they can pull the wings back up, it would be nice to play defense for most the match and then go deploy the minibot. also i'm curious to see if they play defense on a minibot tower too. |

If they get mini-bot deployment up and running, they might be the first rookies to see Einstein since 1902.

It's doubtful we'll see a wallbot.

Akash,
I'd never pick you. <3 |
Re: Will we see a wall robot?
There is a wall bot so to say out here in kansas city. they are a rookie team sadly we have only played about 15 practice matches here so i never saw them play a match.

Lets see how they do at Greater Kansas then today and tomorrow. I am pinning hope on Dragonfly to show how critical defense is in Week 2 as well as all weeks.

Re: Will we see a wall robot?
3528's going to get pushed out of the way. The increased length of their drive train makes the leverage a pushing team would have on them better. With the omni-ish drive they have going on, they're going to to get spun out of the way I think. They need more traction on the ground for this to work. 3553's robot seems to have more traction on their drive train. 8 friction wheels should do the job as long as those outside wheels stay against the ground and don't come up. They probably have too much friction to turn at that point actually, although if they wait to fold out their sides until they're in position, then they really wouldn't have to turn. And actually once they were in that position they would even be lined up with the poles for the minibot, they could just have their minibot attached to their fold out sides.
All in all I think 3553's design could be a huge 3rd alliance partner to any alliance that has 2 good scoring robots. Imagine them on the alliance at alamo with 16 and 148, although 3553 cant score an ubertube, it wouldn't matter because 148 would score it for them. Then 16 and 148 would score like crazy like they did while 3553 held the other alliance to 0 points. I think Einstein's going to be exciting this year :) However, this is just my 2 cents. |

After watching that video, I'm fairly certain that any team with either a 6-Motor, or 2-speed Traction Drive should be able to push 3528 - especially if there is some momentum behind the hit. |

Re: Will we see a wall robot?
<G32> Neither ROBOTS, HOSTBOTS, nor MINIBOTS may break the planes of the vertically
projected borders of the opponent‟s ZONES, including a GAME PIECE in their POSSESSION. Momentary incursions by a POSSESSED GAME PIECE will not be penalized if they do not make contact with anything in the ZONE. Violation: PENALTY. G61 does not apply to this rule, however strategies aimed at taking advantage of this exception will result in a PENALTY plus a YELLOW CARD. If a ROBOT enters the opponent's ZONE and does not make immediate effort to leave OR if it contacts another ROBOT (or GAME PIECE in its POSSESSION) also in the ZONE, then the intruding TEAM will receive a RED CARD. There is a rule that states if you do not attempt to move out immediately you receive penalty and a yellow card. |
Re: Will we see a wall robot?
Anyone have match videos of the other mentioned robots? I really want to see how a match ends up with that much blocking.
We will be very careful in out defense. Playing D during the end game and near end zone will be risky. The amount of times we'll raise/lower the wings will be kept at a minimum. With the smaller compressor we have, and since we had to cut back two reservoir tanks, the battery drops below our optimal operating voltage if it fills the tanks more than a few times. |

Re: Will we see a wall robot?
I highly doubt the robot inspectors would allow for a net since it's way too much of a tangle risk with other robots. I can easily see a robot manipulator getting into a hole or even a fold in the net, try to turn, and getting horribly stuck together.

Re: Will we see a wall robot?
I thought I would chime in here considering our robot is being talked about lol :)
My name is Jordan and I'm one of the Team Captains from Team 3528. As a rookie team this year we wanted something that would be easier to design and control. I think we chose the right path. The KC Regionals just finished up and we did pretty well I think, ontop of being chosen onto a top 8 alliance, we also walked away with the Rookie All Star. Just to let you know a little about our robot: 4 omni wheels and two plaction wheels on each of our wings, we were only able to be pushed around by one team and even then we held them pretty tight. When going up against teams that could put up two full logos when we aren't on the field, we held them to about one. I feel we were very very successful in our rookie year! plus, WE'RE GOING TO ST. LOUIS! Woot woot |

I foresaw putting down wings with rubber bases that would brake if pushed against keeping space between you and the tower. |

I saw the hook of the cane blocking teams from accessing the tower from the narrow slot, and then blocking a good portion of the lane. So if you were able to keep a robot to 1 logo, and then handicap their deployment, it may boost your value significantly |

Just one example of a solution. I'd like to make a robot who's only goal is to render one of the towers almost useless. |

Re: Will we see a wall robot?
To clarify my team's strategy- we are NOT playing defense during the end game, JJ and I don't want red cards.
Some positions in this game are too risky for us to play defense in, we will be playing very cautiously. |
Re: Will we see a wall robot?
We tried to play defense during a few matches during the end game but it proved to be in-effective. Maybe during World we'll come up with something that'll do better
