Which Teams Have Been Able To Score Two Ubertubes In Autonomous

Just was wondering which teams have been able to score two Ubertubes by themselves in autonomous.

Team 40 did it twice at WPI and once at BAE.

Others I know of include 33, 148, and 1114

Does anyone have any video of 1114? We finished our regional today(Florida) so I didnt get a chance to see them compete.

Team 40 actually did it 3, almost 4 times, today at WPI. Crazy stuff.

And here is a video of another team doing it last week.

You're probably thinking of 326, who were (as far as I know) the only other team to perform the feat at Kettering.

yes i remember them doing it as well now, but i know for a fact that team T.O.R.Q did it as well because we were in their alliance for a match. i just had a brainfart and cant remember their team number haha

Does anyone have a video of team 40 doing their double score? From what I've heard, they do something different from how Killer Bees and Robowranglers hang their tubes.

Re: Which Teams Have Been Able To Score Two Ubertubes In Autonomous

Don't know about video, but I've watched it several times, and can confirm that it's very different and very cool.

For those who haven't seen team 40's robot, the basic design is essentially Pink 2k7 with swerve drive. This allows them to pick up from both sides of their robot. They score the first tube as normal, and then back up diagonally, while lowering their arm to pick up from behind. They then pick up the tube directly in line with their partner's stationary robot, tilt the arm back to forward, and score it. Its a very efficient system.

We have one written, but didn't get the opportunity to use it in Florida (not enough testing yet - and we were more than busy with other issues). Expect Pink to be running a 2-tube auto mode pretty soon, as well.

At Kettering only 33 and 326 were able to pull it off... 2137 was very constant at getting one tube... The tine it took them to get one tube would have made it extremely hard to get a second tube... But maybe someone from 2137 will see this thread and provide an answer...

Yes. This was correct. I believe they used their camera to detect the yellow of the Ubertube and strafed over to pick it up. It was amazing to see it in the finals. The gym at WPI erupted when it happened. By far one of the coolest things I have ever seen in Autonomous.

I will ask our video department if we have a video of the match. If we do I will post it up on YouTube.

2 Ubertubes Eh? I think I can shoot for 2 also. I mean if half a dozen teams have done it, why can't I? Only problem I might face is the claw not actually being able to grab the tube from the ground.

When I saw Team 40 score two ubertubes this past weekend I was blown away! I can't believe that some teams are able to do that! Our team is having enough trouble as it is trying to program autonomus with only one student in programming and one mentor!

To all the teams that are able to program a double autonomous; Congratulations! You guys are doing an amazing job! :D

Tube would be sitting next to an alliance robot and touching their bumper (hence the big chunk of fiberglass on the floor to represent the other robot). Have refs not been allowing an initial set up like this?

That's perfectly legal and very similar to the setup I have seen 33, 148 and 1114 use.

See everyone at the AZ regional this week! :)

Only if it doesn't move before they get there which is quite plausible since a lot of teams don't have an autonomus.

I do not remember them successfully doing it. I know they attempted many times, but had issues accidentally gripping on the other robot.

51 and 469 are also attempting it, but once again I'm not entirely sure if either one of those teams actually have scored two.

I heard Tom Nadar say they completed it.. Ive seen 51 and 469 attempt through your videos... Maybe they did it in pratice matches?

I don't think anyone has a program to do it - there just isn't enough time for it! 1114 has the fastest double I've seen, and even they only have ~3 seconds to spare at the end! Assuming they could do the third as fast as the first two, they'd need a bare minimum of 18 seconds (since I'm guessing the second/third tube takes longer than the first).

That'd be really impressive, but I'm not sure it'd be all that valuable! It'd seem pretty uncommon that a hypothetical triple-uber robot is with two partners who can't uber more reliably than they can get all three! Perhaps I have too much faith in the "average" robot... :-)

1730, excellent work. Even more interesting is our robot going across the field and malfunctioning while you hang it!

Remind me, were the Robettes able to hang twice? I knew they are trying.

Re: Which Teams Have Been Able To Score Two Ubertubes In Autonomous

Team 987 scored two ubertubes in 6 of their 8 matches today. One was missed from an opposing alliance coming across the field and hitting their alliance partner (who was touching the tube) and the second miss was from a tube that deflated when they picked it up.

They also put their new, faster minibot on display today, too...

I've heard one of the other KC winners, 525, has added this trick to their repertoire as well across the street at 10K Lakes.

I'm sure someone will be able to get the video posted soon but we were able to back up our practice match performance today with a 2-tube run in a qualification match at North Star. We've still got plenty of room for improvement but we're still working hard at it!

Good Luck to everyone still working on their code!

That will make them interesting but by the time it gets down to the "near finals", most everyone can get an Ubertube on the top row. Personally, I think 3 separate robots hanging 3 separate ubertubes is more reliable than one robot doing 2.

Techhexium 02-04-2011 02:24

Re: Which Teams Have Been Able To Score Two Ubertubes In Autonomous

I heard that three teams scoring an ubertube would become cramped for the alliance, so that robots may actually collide with another robot.

Today when I watched the SV regional through webcast (I wasn't actually there), I did see an alliance where all three tubes were scored by each robot. So I think the claim is a bit of an overstatement.

But I agree that 3 teams is better, because if a team can consistently do autonomous (score one ubertube) then they are likely a good team.

If i can remember correctly (GVSU was a while ago) in elimination there was i think 5 ubbers up and the sixth was a miss... as long as the bots do what they are supposed to and go in on a straight path there is plenty of room for every bot to score in auton.

Here is a video showing the auto trial runs using encoders and gyro chip
We were able to score 2 ubertubes in auton. 14 times in a row.
We had previously had some issues with the gyro which was affecting our auton. capabilities, but now we have everything working as planned
