It is in the 70's in DC today so snow isn't likely.

Team 1511, Rolling Thunder is looking forward to our trip to D.C. to get some warmth! Although the snow is melting rapidly up here and the crocuses are pushing through the ground, we will be happy to pack up some of the remaining snow and bring it down to the Pink Team!

We will have a minibot tower set up at out pit, complete with timer, and a prize for the fastest mini-bot of DC!

Sounds great. We'll probably want to enter the "race." Will you have both "stock" and "modified" classes where you can use a 20 volt battery?

MINISTOCK :ahh:

I once raced a ministock on a 1/4 mile 'D' in high school. Best fun of my life, though I had to do it on a Saturday that my mom wasn't there so she didn't know.

Mrs. P. I think you are jinxing us! It is now snowing up here like crazy and we get to drive through it to get to D.C.! I'll pack some up and throw it in the cooler, but it will probably be water by the time we get there! :p

Safe travels to everyone!

Well it was a nice day today. For the first time in our existence we went out on the field for practice and made the game look easy to play. Should be a couple of good matches in the lineup for tomorrow. Look forward to it!

I like how we have 10 qualification matches this year. It's a bit crammed in, and longer on Friday, but man it's nice to have a couple of extras.

Lets get this thread updated.

Alliance selections are about to begin.

Let me say as a veteran mentor and a game announcer:
The game announcers here are excellent.
They explain the game and the scoring well and pay attention to both alliances.
Any visitors should understand the game.

Also, IMHO, the DJ's are doing a great job.

Of Course, Blair rocks.

I always knew Jeff was one of the Elite MC's in the country, but I had no idea he was that epic on play-by-play! As an announcer for 7 years, I'm really enjoying his style.

Congrats to 768, 233, and 2377. It was great to be there. 2016 and 233 are truly amazing bots. You could sense the mutual respect for each other. The 2016 alliance showed a lot of 'class' sticking with 1708 (their cRio was failing - they gave it everything).. 1885 did a good job stepping in. It is good to know that 2016, 233, 768, and 63 are all competing in STL. Cheers.

1885 - Engineering Inspiration Award

768,233, and 2377 for winning the Regional. Congrats to PINK for winning their 2nd Regional this year, and 768 for winning two back to back. You guys were amzing competitors at Chesapeake.

Re: 2011 DC Regional...

I'm really glad Gail finally won WFA. She's literally changed the entire paradigm of STEM education in the county for the better, and the entire region is taking notice of its effects.

We got a miracle chance to be a backup bot today, and took the opportunity to play some intense defense on PINK in Finals match 3. Now while I can't say this as a sweeping fact for every team, I do believe that it's quite possible to totally shut down one GOOD robot on the opposing alliance. You guys on Einstein choose carefully ;)

Re: 2011 DC Regional...

What a great event! as a senior, this was my last official FIRST Regional Event. 1089 didnt have a chance to secure a spot at CMP's but we came into this regional hoping to win an automatic bid. unfortunately we came up a little bit short but what can you do? hopefully I'll be back next year with our team, and we can make a run in St. Louis

To our alliance partners 1598 and 116, amazing job in the eliminations! 1598 was ranked very highly on our list, and when i got onto the field for alliance selection as the 7th seed, i didnt have a very tough decision to make (they were the highest team left on my list!). the second pick we made was a lucky one. i was about to pick a different team (who got picked soon after, no worries), but at the last second saw 116 hadnt been crossed out. after asking 1598, I made the selection. having pit scouted 116 i was excited to work with them. 1598 you guys are awesome, we really rocked the QF's. 116, i loved the sound your arm made when it went up (so did half my team lol), and i think you guys were a total sleeper pick. i know you werent doing so well on friday morning, but by the end of the night you had me in awe. great job to all of you guys

Congrats to 2016, you guys represented jersey extremely well, and although you didnt win the even, you showed DC what Jersey FIRST is all about.

congrats to 233, 768, and 2377 on winning the event. 2 wins apiece now for PINK and 768, thats impressive!

congrats to everyone else who won an award haha, at this pace i would have an entire page for my one post!

on a more serious note, concerning the JVN thread about Pittsburgh (here is the link), i heard something that sounded suspiciously like booing (booing and oohing sound similar), when 2016 declined 768. having known what it feels like to be booed for declining an alliance, i was so proud of 2016 for showing the people who booed why they declined.

Re: 2011 DC Regional...

Thanks for the kind words from 1089. We had a great time playing with your team -- You were great. Thanks for picking us to join your great team in elims. Thanks to 116 for joining in with a great HP and MiniBot -- Tough last match, but that is the way to go out - just sweep it up and put it in a bag:) . We had a great time at DC, all the teams were great - it was nice to talk with 233 and let them know how much they inspired our design for this year.

This was a great regional for our small rebuilding team - we only brought 8 team members. Only two of them have ever attended a regional, and only one of them was on the drive team. These new students are HOOKED now and will aid in our rebuilding process thanks to the positive experiance they had. This was one of - if not the best regionals I have attended. Load-in was run great, there were great teams there, all the volunteers were great and very helpful ( especially pit admin ). Inspectors, and field crew was great. Thanks to everyone for helping me give these new "FIRSTERS" a great experiance.

Re: 2011 DC Regional...

I want to congratulate ALL the teams that played at the DC Regional. The competition was exciting throughout the matches. Team 768 would especially like to thank our alliance members in all matches for helping us to become first seed, and congratulate our winning alliance partners from 233, PINK and 2377, C Company. Game play in the finals was fierce, thanks to the awesome alliance of 2016, 63, 1708, and 1885. We hope to play with you all in St. Louis.

A very special thank you to Team 340, GRR, who gave us a minibot at the Chesapeake Regional, to replace our broken one. We attribute much of our success on the field to your great design and generosity!

Congratulations also to Team 1511 for winning Chairman's, Gail for becoming the DC Woodie Flowers Award winner, and to all the other teams who won awards!

OScubed 28-03-2011 01:25

Re: 2011 DC Regional...

Thanks from Team 1511 to the other competitors, and the judges for 1511's chairman's award nod. We had so much fun at this regional - everything from helping other teams (by the end of the competition we'd counted over 60 individual "assists" to other teams - almost 1/2 the teams in the pits had an assist of one sort or another from 1511). We even were able to help out Pit Admin :) to touring the mall and visiting the Air and Space museum. We fould all of the competitors at Washington to be gracious professionals, and fun competitors.

All in all we had as much fun working with everyone as we had actually competing with our robot. Despite some early mechanical problems the drive team really came together by the end of the competition. We were happy to be picked to team with the 4th seeded team and felt that the entire alliance gave it all on the field - we fought hard until PINK and their team eliminated us in the semifinals. Jason really showed them that he could "drive it like he stole it" when playing defense against the formidable PINK machine in our final match... It all came down to minibots that match as the tube score was pretty even.

We all look forward to seeing those that qualified in St. Louis, and were a bit disappointed we had to leave Washington - it was so nice and warm there (I know YOU think it was a cold snap - but to us that was shirtsleeve weather). When we got home it was in the 20's and there is still snow on the ground.... :(

Cheers,

DC was amazing.
Working with 233 was an honor i didnt expect to have in DC. 2016 was an amazing robot to face.

A special thanks to 340 for their amazing help with our mini bot. Also i would like to thank 2377 for joining our alliance. Finally a shout out to the rooky team 3549 seeing the excitment in 3549 was truly inspirational.

Re: 2011 DC Regional...

On behalf of 2016 I would like to say this was a really fun regional and event for us to attend.

We were honored to be selected by 768 as the #1 seed, but the team needed to learn to grow and understand how to select their own alliance partners. There was nothing wrong with 768 or their robot, we would have loved to partner with them. This was a decision knowing that we had already qualified for St. Louis and the team has really never gone through the process of picking an alliance even though being 5 years in. So it was a good learning experience and a good stage for us to practice our strategy and scouting capabilties.

We want to congratulate 768, 233 and 2377 on their alliance, a great set of finals matches but a few mishaps, which are ever so present in FIRST. I wish we could have had a few more strong battles.

I want to thank 63, 1708 and 1885 for joining our alliance and partnering into the finals. It was a great pleasure to work with each of you.

I will also give a shout out to 3549, it was a great deal of fun working with this rookie team, these guys were awesome. They never let their heads down and always looked next. These guys will be capable of some extra-ordinary things in the near future, will definitely be keeping an eye on them.

Good luck guys and hope to see many of you in St. Louis.

Re: 2011 DC Regional...

I really want to give a shout out to Team 1511.

We had taken most of our machine apart on Thursday morning to replace a broken roll pin on our Super Shifter. Our machine was literally in 150 pieces on Thursday morning. We had forgotten to pack the replacement roll pin and they came to our aid with lots of choices and even tried to help replace it. While they didn't have what we needed they sure tried above and beyond.

After we had made that repair and re-assembled our machine as we were doing a "systems check" before inspection we broke an axle and again took most of the machine apart on Thursday afternoon for a second time.

After this second reassembly all of our encoders stop working, after I spent time doing diagnostics but unable to find any problem we called out for help and again Team 1511 sent someone to our aid. While neither of us could identify the problem again they went above and beyond in trying to help.

After all of these issue we actually made it out on the field Friday, and reached the semi's, Murphy was sure looking over or shoulders.

So Thanks Team 1511 we really appreciated everything you did.

PS. The mentor that came over to help me with our encoder issue send me a PM as I did find the problem, but you'd never believe it.

Well we (1279) are back from the DC Regional and nearly unpacked :)

A great event, well run, thank you organizers and volunteers.
The teams were all great and it was good to see many familiar Jersey faces.

We made some new friends with our mini-bot pole, some folks came to race and some just to debug or tune-up, but it was great to see all the designs and talk to their creators. Team 623 had the fastest time tested with a blinding 1.171 seconds, not far behind was 2016 with 1.312.

Finally very special thanks to 449 and 56 our alliance partners, we went down fighting and gave 378, 1511, and 2590 a run for their money! Good luck going forward!

Thank you to everyone at the Washing DC regional for an outstanding event. The pink team felt very welcome, and we had a great time in your wonderful city. The announcers were fun and informative, the volunteers were helpful and cheerful, and the refs were simply fantastic. We met a lot of new friends and had a ton of fun.

Thanks very much to team 768 for selecting us. Competition aside, both you and team 2377 are really nice people and it was a blast facing the challenge with you.

Special hat-tip to the finalist alliance; 63, 2016, 1708, and 1885. You guys were insanely good, and if it weren't for a run of bad luck probably would have won. It was a privilege to compete against you, and I hope that we can play on the same alliance in the future.

It was a very unusual and unique situation for us. Typically we, like yourselves are one of the teams that run around and help everyone else. It was rather strange for us to be on the receiving end. But it's this kind of support and fellowship that makes FIRST so great.

I know it's a little late, but It'll work;

It was truly a pleasure to be on an alliance with Team's 2016 & 63 along with 1885. Though we had our fair share of problems with some communication issues, thank you for giving us the oppertunity to be in the finals it was a life changing expierence. We have in the week raised enough money to attend another regional, you guy's helping us make it to Finals in DC as lit the fuse on our team and gave everyone the motivation to work harder to get another shot a St.Louis.

On another note, does anyone have any Video from Qualification or Practice matches during DC? It would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

The fastest team at 1.171 seconds should read 612, not 623.
