BattleCry@WPI 12 - Reg opens 4-April
Hi Everyone-
Registration for BattleCry@WPI 12 opens this Monday, April 4th. Slots are assigned in order of signup and we will fill a list of Ready Reserves after that. In past years, all ready reserves have eventually been given the opportunity to signup! This year's event will feature 48 teams competing over 1.5 days! Your $350 registration fee includes at least 8 matches, guaranteed spot in the elims, 10 event t-shirts, 10 BBQ dinners, 10 Ice Cream Social tickets, 10 Lunches, and access for all to the Team Social. It promises to be lots of fun as always! Registration will open promptly at 8AM Eastern on 4-April. The link where registration will be at that time is http://www.wpi.edu/news/Events/BattleCry/fray.html. Even if your team cannot attend, we'd love to have you as a volunteer! Sign up to volunteer here. It's a great opportunity to get some practice or try out a new job at an FRC event! If you have any questions about the event, contact us via bc@wpi.edu. |
Re: BattleCry@WPI 12 - Reg opens 4-April

Re: BattleCry@WPI 12 - Reg opens 4-April
562 is planning (to my knowledge) to sign up as soon as possible (which reminds me! I need to shoot this off to our head mentor! :ahh: )
Hope to see you there! |
Re: BattleCry@WPI 12 - Reg opens 4-April
Looking forward to registering this year. It's been a few years since we did Battle Cry.

Hope to see you there, Devil Dawgs.

Re: BattleCry@WPI 12 - Reg opens 4-April
Aluminum Falcons are in!
Our game ended too soon in Hartford and no one on the team is ready to stop. We had 100% success in autonomous, consistent top-row logos, a sub 2-second minibot... we're just getting started! |
Re: BattleCry@WPI 12 - Reg opens 4-April
I hereby request that the theme for Battlecry 12 be the Twelve song. This is also acceptable.
|
Re: BattleCry@WPI 12 - Reg opens 4-April
Team 558 is very excited for it's first ever Battlecry (we were supposed to go last year, but our robot got lost in transit for a time between Atlanta and New Haven). We were very happy with our autonomous mode (100% accurate) and our tube hanging in teleop at the CT Regional, and plan to have a fully functioning minibot for Battlecry. Nice to have such a great off season even to give us a chance to continue to work and improve our skills!!!
|
Re: BattleCry@WPI 12 - Reg opens 4-April
This will be our first BattleCry event, and the whole team was pumped to hear we got a spot.
From reading through other posts, it seems that improvements are allowed for this off season event? We've been adding sensors and rebuilding our arm to have a little fun at some public events this summer, just want to make sure it's kosher to still work on it until BC in May. |
Re: BattleCry@WPI 12 - Reg opens 4-April
Based on the history of the event I wonder what the game twist will be this year. Here are some options I think would be interesting:
- de-value the minibots - add more poles to the field - bring back the black "spoiler" tube from 2007? Only able to be placed in the end game, one per alliance. - introduce a "golden tube" worth x number of bonus points - allow stacking of tubes to count |
Re: BattleCry@WPI 12 - Reg opens 4-April
Glad to see there is so much excitement for BC12! We are currently in the process of discussing the game tweaks for this year to make some small changes. To answer a couple points:
- Jess, we're way ahead of you... - Robot changes.. those are definitely welcome! We encourage you to continue to improve your robots for the game in general and the tweaks. While we don't do inspections, we expect GP teams to continue to comply with all FIRST robot rules. - Game tweaks.. feel free to keep the ideas coming! We think this is a pretty good game, but it wouldn't be BC without the tweaks! They should add to the game, allow all teams to achieve more, and should be able to be easily scored within the scoring software! - If you missed registration, sign up on the ready reserves. The past few years we've gone through the entire ready reserves list! - For those of you looking to stay in the area, it looks like the date change will allow us to house people in dorms again! Looking at cheaper than past year's for the dorms as well! As always, up-to-date info, game changes, registration, etc can be found at www.wpi.edu/+bc |
Re: BattleCry@WPI 12 - Reg opens 4-April
Good game changes, IMO:
1. Devalue the minibot. Either 20-15-10-5 or a static score of X points as a bonus. 2. Allow herding. 3. All tubes on rack worth 3 points. When two alliances who can fill the top row face each other, the middle and bottom rows are never deep enough to make up for the minibot race. |

Tweak the autonomous! How about making one of the tracking lines curved?

Re: BattleCry@WPI 12 - Reg opens 4-April
I'll be there with 1073 :D. This will most likely be my last BC as a senior going to Florida for college! Hoping to see people on teams and people on the field that I've met through volunteering at Boston and St. Louis this year from the area!

Can't wait to see old friends and new! Gonna be so much fun! Old alliances reunited once more. See everyone soon!:]

Re: BattleCry@WPI 12 - Reg opens 4-April
On a side note, 2791 / 3044 / 121 as an alliance gives me shivers. 2791 and 121 together upset 40 at the WPI regional, and 3044 is one of our friends in the Capital District region with a very solid minibot and good performance this year. 121 and 3044 were on the same alliance for the WPI elims, so there's a lot of brotherhood on this alliance.

Can someone please posts the award results.

Re: BattleCry@WPI 12 - Reg opens 4-April
2079 had a great time at BattleCry. I’d like to thank everyone at WPI who helped put on such a high quality event.
I want to thank 125 and 2648 for being such great alliance partners. You guys both had awesome robots and were really fun to play with in eliminations. Both 2648 and 125 were very gracious in helping us get ready before eliminations and they both played a role in helping us win the purple heart award. I specifically want to thank 125 for helping us diagnose some electrical issues we had with our compressor. 125 has great robot, but unfortunately they’ve been finalists three times this year without taking home gold. Hopefully they’ll show the world what they’re made of at IRI. 125 is among the best in the country this year. I also want to thank team 88. 88 saved our competition about 5 times on Saturday. None of our mechanical mentors were available to come to the competition on Saturday and we had a serious drivetrain failure in the morning. 88 was more than willing to help us out. They lent of tools to fix the problem, they lent us the experience and time we needed to get out on the field. They lent us the parts we needed that broke from the failure, and the even lent us a Velcro strap when our battery mount broke in eliminations. In short, 88 was always there when we needed help, and they really saved us quite a few times. Overall I thought the competition was awesome. 1073, 1519 and 238 are more than deserving champions and even though they beat our alliance in the finals, I had no problem losing to such gracious and professional teams. |

Huge thanks to WPI for putting on this event!! Can't wait for the new recreation center to be finished for the 2013 Battlecry. |

Were the matches (what got pumped to the web feed) recorded?
|
Re: BattleCry@WPI 12 - Reg opens 4-April
Congratulations to 1073, 1519, and 238! You guys were amazing to watch via the webcast! 1073 had solid defense,a great minibot and solid auto, 1519's double ubertube and consistent scoring, and 238 was a steal of the draft being a phenomenal second scorer/defender when needed!
Very proud of you guys! |
Re: BattleCry@WPI 12 - Reg opens 4-April
Congrats to 1519, 1073, and 238 for putting on quite a show in the finals. I'd like to thank Teams 121 and 3044 for being great alliance partners and even though we lost to the eventual winners it was still fun. And I'd also like to thank all of the volunteers and WPI for putting on a great event. I know I saw KoKo Ed in queuing and some RPI students on field reset, you guys really kept everything running smoothly the whole time. It was my first BattleCry and it definitely won't be my last.
Also, to James Temple of 176 it was so cool to see you take town the 40-78 alliance that I was certain had too much firepower for anyone to stop. And to Steven Greco it was awesome watching you guys in the finals and too bad you couldn't take it home. If I remember correctly the awards went as follows: BattleCry STAR- A mentor and multiple event volunteer from 40 Best BattleCry- 2648 Top Gun- 78 Awesome Offense- 40 Dominating Defense- 2523 Noncombatant Service- 1991 Purple Heart- 2079 Medal of Honor- 3280 General Staff- 2791 General Staff-? General Staff-? Air Superiority- (1519)? Engineering Excellence-? Hopefully others can fill in the holes. |
Re: BattleCry@WPI 12 - Reg opens 4-April
The NUTRONS had a great event. We loved having another chance to compete with 2648, they are an amazing team, and it was great to compete with 2079, you guys were really what we need to complete the alliance. Hopefully we'll see all of you at the Beantown Blitz on June 4th!

Re: BattleCry@WPI 12 - Reg opens 4-April
The Aluminum Falcons, FIRST Team 2168 would like to thank:
WPI staff, students, Solidworks, BAE Systems, and other supporting sponsors for once again running one of the best east coast post season events. FRC176 Aces High - Thanks for picking us in the vast field of options and for playing some solid defense with your rookie drivers. (On a personal note it was rather cool to work with my high school team again.) FRC157 Aztecs - To our "random selected partner" you were the perfect compliment to our gameplay, running us tubes, and playing smart. Thanks. FRC175 Buzz - Thanks for letting us run your spare minibot throughout all of Saturday, it was pretty key to most of our wins. Good luck at your other offseason events. This event was truely great for our kids. To see our robot finally perform at the level we knew it could was a very proud moment for myself and the rest of the team. In one match we managed to score an ubertube, 8 tubes, and a minibot, I had no idea our drivers could pull that off. |
Re: BattleCry@WPI 12 - Reg opens 4-April
I had a lot of fun looking from the outside in as a volunteer this time around. I rejoiced, suffered and hung out with almost every drive team at BC12, and had a great time in the process. Thanks to all the teams for making the event as electric as it was.
To my fellow volunteers, specifically Koko Ed (Mr. Ed Patterson), Ruth Toomey and most of all, the coordinator Colleen, thanks for taking me under your wing for the weekend and having a great time in the process. I hope to work with all of you again. Look out, we've got a new volunteer on the loose! |

I know it might have been crazy on my part as an alliance captain, but I picked 2168 knowing and trusting that you guys could do exactly what we needed; put the alliance on your back. I didn't even walk onto the field with a pick list. I knew 2168 would be there, round after round, to put up more points by themselves than 2 decent robots together. Showing up to an event with 9 out of 10 students being freshmen and coming out the 8th alliance captain put us in a scary position. We struggled every match to put up a single tube. It might have been crazy, and I know it was a bummer our usual drivers weren't there to put up 5 or 6 tubes, but it really gave 2168 the opportunity they so well deserved to finally shine. Your fantastic tubing, totally in sync with the tube running of 157 was the reason we got as far as we did. Good luck in the future, you guys have amazing things ahead of you |

Engineering Excellence was 190. One of the General Staff was 131. The name of the BattleCry STAR award winner is Karen Pringle, a longtime mentor and FIRST volunteer (i.e. 15 years). Also, if anyone is interested in watching the "Twelve Song" intro video again, here's a link to it on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wq8HK...el_video_title. |
Re: BattleCry@WPI 12 - Reg opens 4-April
Team 166 had the best time we could have considering our elevator had broken in our last match at championships and we were unable to to repair it in time for battlecry because we had just gotten it back 3 days before the competition. However we proved that our robot a can also play amazing defense leading us to go 6-1 in qualifications. We have (hopefully) fixed the elevator now so it will be ready for mayhem in merrimack.
