Those are...interesting rollers. And I see (maybe) a DeWalt. Mind curing my curiosity?

Looks nice Tony. Can't wait to see it in action in Dallas.

I'm more curious about the big right angle gearbox at the shoulder, and the two piston looking things mounted horizontal on the base. And that's gotta be one of the biggest alignment V's I've seen yet on the back... But I'm unsure of the purpose of the big white thing behind it.

Hi guys,
The rollers are tires of a type used on 4X4 RC cars.
Yes we had to go with the DeWalt again because we needed the anti back drive properties for the arm.
The 90 degree gearbox is a custom item we made with worm gears for anti back drive.
The cylinder things are spring counter-weights for the arm.

I think that the dewalts are always in the LASA's kit of parts. Missed you guys at Lone Star. Just wasn't the same without you. I guess its been kinda hard waiting for the last week to finally get on the floor and compete.

We missed you, too. It is 'kinda hard' waiting for the last week and it was hard missing the Lone Star Regional that we've attended for so long. It was also hard not being there to cheer on all of our friends and fellow competitors in the robot competition and in the judged awards. Ya'll done good.

I have to say that I have a new respect for the 6th Week competitions; it's a long journey. :)

I'm confused, is there a legal motor hiding inside of that yellow case, or am I just missing something?

Uh Ohhhh...

I think Luke is right. I've checked and don't see dewalts on the approved motor list for this year.

Might want to take some extra BaneBots or FisherPrice just in case....

I'm only seeing 3 of the 5 possible small silver motors(BaneBots and F-Ps) elsewhere on the robot. Assuming they aren't using an illegal motor, I would say the fourth one is in there, using the drill's gearbox.

EDIT: I obviously wasn't paying enough attention---I just reworded Luke's question as a statement. Unfortunately, I've missed the time window where I'm allowed to delete my post.

It frustrates me that chief delphi as a whole automatically assumes a robot isnt following the rules when a picture is posted. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this bot assuming they used 4x banebots and one fp. That dewalt you see is a gear box, there is a paper on how to make them on CD media. If you don't understand it, don't assume its wrong.

I did not assume that they were doing something illegal. In fact I asked a question "is there a legal motor hiding inside of that yellow case" because I figured that it might just be a gear box and the FP or bane bot wasn't visible. Unfortunately as an inspector I saw many teams come to competition with illegal motors. I'd prefer (and presumably so would the teams in question) to point out a possible issue BEFORE they get to a regional so that they can prepare.

Re: pic: Team 418's Robot

Those particular dewalts actually use an RS-775 motor, if I recall correctly. All you'd have to do is pull the pinion off and press it on a legal BB RS-775 and you've got an anti-backdrive high torque gearbox.

Re: pic: Team 418's Robot

The DeWalt case houses the FP motor which came with the kit and as described in the "Nothing but DeWalts" white paper.

There may be an adjustment or two to the bumpers...

Yeah, thank goodness Bertucci was a robot inspector at the Alamo Regional and realized the robot frame was a little outside spec for the bumper rules. Easy fix, though, should be one heckuva time at Dallas this upcoming week.
