Israeli team asking for volunteers to drive their robot at Champs
Hello,
Team 3358 is a from a religious jewish school, and all the students and teachers are orthodox jews. This means that they can not drive their robot or do any other work during the "Shabbat" (sunset friday till sundown saturday). On their behalf I am requesting assistance from teams willing to drive and operate the robot during most of friday and saturday. We would ideally like a group of 4-5 people who would work together with the team on thursday and friday morning to familiarize themselves with the robot and the team's tools, and then take over later on friday to drive the robot and take care of it all the way through the rest of the competition. This is a great opportunity for a team to get some field experience for a new drive team. ideally we would like:
Please feel free to ask questions, and please discuss this with your team leaders before committing to anything. Teams willing to fill in all the above spots will be given priority since it simplifies the process, but it would also be cool to assemble an allstar team made from students from many teams, so don't hold back! :) Thanks from the YTPT J.E.T.S, and the FIRST Israel community! -Leav |

That would be really fun to coach. I am somewhat interested.

MORT will also be traveling with a pair of eager alternate drivers to St. Louis, as well as capable pit crew members. I will have to speak with them to see if they would be willing to donate their time. This is an interesting situation and we would love to help out in any way we can. I will get back to you when I know more.

To you and all others who will post here later: I hope we can all work together to form the best team we can for 3358, so that their robot will show it's full potential! |

My first thought was that this could be a great opportunity for some Dean's List finalists who are in St. Louis without their team.

Re: Israeli team asking for volunteers to drive their robot at Champs
Hmm, my daughter is a dean's list finalist, drove for our team in San Diego, coached for her team in LA, and will be in St. Louis without a team. Sounds like the perfect candidate for the 3358 drive team. I forwarded her the link, but she is in school right now and cannot respond. I'm sure she would be thrilled to be part of the drive team.
Danielle would prefer to be a driver but would also accept a position on the pit team. I have PMed you her contact information. |

Re: Israeli team asking for volunteers to drive their robot at Champs
Team 357 may be able to offer two or three students to help out. I'm talking to my team's head mentor now about it. We have team members with three years of driver/ operator practice that may be able to help out, also we have a couple students which got some practice as human player this build season, and a lot of our members have a lot of practice working as pit crew. I will see what we can do, and let you know.

Re: Israeli team asking for volunteers to drive their robot at Champs
I am an alumni who mentors our teams strategy and Drive team. We have a very good secondary team who really want as much experience as possible. They would really enjoy this opportunity and I can guarantee they will do a great job.
We have a very skilled driver who is a senior. She has won 2 off season events with different robots. She is very good at adapting to different controls and is a quick learner. We also have a coach that has been itching to get more field time. He loves strategy and eats, sleeps, and breaths first. I can get you video of them driving and perhaps give them a chance to interview for this role. I have a feeling you will have a ton of interest and may need to hold try outs! I am really excited about this! |
Re: Israeli team asking for volunteers to drive their robot at Champs
This sounds like an amazing idea. Being Jewish myself I can really sympathies with 3358. I have posted this link on my team's forums, and will talk with them about this at our next class meeting. We always take a large number of students down to worlds and I'm sure some of them would love to help.
Personally, I can volunteer to help out with any of their mechanical needs. (At my Scouting Mentor's discretion of course) |

I think it is a great idea to let these Dean's list finalists without their team work together. I will be there also and as an automotive engineer for almost 25 years, I can be available to help support this all-star Dean's list finalist team. |

Leav,
When you get the team put together that will represent 3358, please post here in CD with their information. Also, please post a photo of the 3358 teams together. This is so cool. Jane |

Jane, You should have been there a couple of years ago when I introduced Greg Needel's team to 2214, the Yamin Orde Youth Village. The kids from 2214 were virtually all Ethiopians, so they were very tall, very black and very Jewish. Greg's kids were all short Afro-American Baptists. As I pointed out....'now, you probably thought all Jews are white.' FIRST is great at impacting culture! |
