Seriously, I think the ultimate champion on Einstein will be decided by consistency and the seeding of the division (and therefore the relative strength of the emerging alliance). So let the "stronger" divisions beat up on each other in quals (possibly leading to "surprise #1" and alliance breakup) while the cream rises to the top in Curie. In this game, marginal scoring diminishes quickly. I think all division winning alliances will be capable of putting up 4 logos per match, they just need to do so consistently. Bottom logos past that really aren't a gamebreaker (only 6pts for whole logo, weak). The winning alliances need to consistently put up 3 Ubers in auto and avoid penalties. They also need to consistently be at the towers at the 10 sec mark to enter their 2 minibots in the race of the sub-2sec minibots. It is way too early to predict which division will come out ahead in those races... :ahh: We need to take it one step at a time. We will not face Newton or Galileo (the aforementioned "strong divisions") till the Einstein Finals. After we crown our champion, we need focus on beating Archimedes for taking our field in the Dome (and to keep The Radioactive Archimedes' Screw Trophy :D ) Personally, consider being in the same division as the AC of my team's 2 most successful runs on the world stage a sign of good luck(Nat Champs w/ Beatty in '01, Div Finalists w/ 987 in '08). Also, we have a good mix of old friends and new faces. Plus, having 5 HOF teams in your division never hurts ;) |
Re: 2011 Curie Division
Looks like 176 is the only CT team in Curie this year, odd!
Oh well, we're ready to compete, and we're bringing a few new cards to play as well! ;) |

Re: 2011 Curie Division
OPR is not the end-all be-all for this game. Just look at MSC...if we went by OPR, the end result would have been completely different.
I am confident that many of the teams in Curie can hang/beat the top teams in the other divisions. Besides, they all have to beat each other up...before they get out of their division. In the end the best alliance from each division will be pretty evenly matched. 67, 16, and 348 did our best to take down the Galileo giants last time we were on Curie. If you study those Einstien matches it was closer than the final scores looked. There are a lot of strong teams in this division. I believe the alliance that gets out of Curie will be very strong. Eliminations are going to be very tough..the division winner will be have their strategy and teamwork down by the time they are done. I remember hearing Newton was pretty weak last year and no way they would be able to beat the "un-beatable" alliance coming from Curie. 67 is ready for another challenge! |

Re: 2011 Curie Division
If we are going of well know and consistent powerhouse names then yes, Curie is weak. but I don't believe we are week at all who knows what could happen through the three days of competition all of the top contenders could break some how could switch up the top 24. I feel like Curie is going to be a great division this year and tell people around not to sleep on us.:D
|
Re: 2011 Curie Division
Team 126 is so ready for nationals! We have had some problems the last two competitions but now that those are straightened out we are ready to compete! With a consistent autonomous, 7-8 tubes per match and a 1.1 second minibot, we are ready :), let' break this dry spell Curie!
|
Re: 2011 Curie Division
I think that one of the things that is going to make Curie interesting is that it is not top-heavy. It has many many very solid teams. In my opinion, that will make for very interesting qualifications and eliminations... The 8th pick for eliminations may very well be as solid as the 15th pick. I think we are going to see the best matches out of all the divisions in Curie...
|
Re: 2011 Curie Division
I'll throw in for 57. Don't be fooled by that low OPR, that was all tubes without a functioning minibot. We're bringing a fast minibot and deployment, and have a good autonomous, so I'm liking our chances for playing on Saturday afternoon.

Re: 2011 Curie Division

Curie has: 67 (two time defending world champion and 2011 MSC Champion), 2056 (Still undefeated record at regionals and part of current 2011 high score record holder of 150 - just filthy good), 71 (Beatty, enough said), 987 (maybe a little bias here, but we did win a WC at this similar game in 2007 and two Regionals this year), 365, 245, 573, 51, 968 and 1717 (southern CA powerhouses), ...on and on. The teams in Curie this year have a combined 11 world championships (back to 1992), Galileo has 8, Archimedes has 7, and Newton has 6. (Since 2001: Curie 8WC, Galileo 7WC, Arch 7WC, Newton 4WC) Appearances on Einstien since 2001: Curie 23, Galileo 23, Newton 22, Arch 17. Underestimated, yes. Weak, no. I have a feeling that some of the lesser known (nationally) teams will have an impact this year, too, such as 1983, 2363, 1986, and 1678. World Champions: Curie: 71 (2004, 2002, 2001, 1997), 67 (2010, 2009, 2005), 987 (2007), 365 (2001), 176 (1999), and 126 (1992) Galileo: 111 (2009, 2003), 294 (2010, 2001), 1114 (2008), 469 (2003), 173 (2002), and 48 (1999) Arch: 177 (2010, 2007), 190 (2007), 330 (2005), 503 (2005), 435 (2004), 45 (1998) Newton: 148 (2008, 1993), 217 (2008, 2006), 25 (2000), 494 (2004) (Bob Steele beat me to the point....) |

And, for those that have thought it to be very odd that a guy from 343 is on here... I am traveling with and helping team 2751 for Championships.
2751 has a record of 24-9 on the year. This includes Finalist at the Palmetto Regional, and Champions of the North Carolina Regional. They can hang and ubertube reliably, 2+ logos on their own, and has a fast, reliable mini-bot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eyxf49AwyDk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUsvF...eature=related Here are links to videos from their action at the North Carolina Regional. |

We had the fastest and most consistent mini-bot in Colorado along with an autonomous that hung a tube in 15 consecutive matches. We've got a whole new minibot and autonomous planned. We're also in the process of tracking down a drivetrain issue. We seemed a bit underpowered in Colorado as compared to KC. Expect the new and improved robot to turn a few heads. This is our 3rd consecutive year at champs. We do not take our place here for granted. It is an honor to join the distinguished field at Curie, and our scouts will be watching this thread with great interest. |

Some robot stuff: Name: Velociraptor Drivetrain: Holomonic, four 8" mecanums powered by one CIM each. Appendage: Double articulating arm End effector: Belt driven roller claw with the ability to rotate tubes Minibot: 1.5 second climb, our deployment system may change beforehand. Our robot was geared for about 15ft/sec free speed, so it's around 11-12ft/sec. We generally hang six tubes a match, making two logos on the top row or one logo on top and one on the middle, depending on our partners. The most tubes we have hung in a match is eight. Our roller claw is a tube magnet and can pick up tubes in almost any way imaginable. Performance wise, we set the high score at both the Waterford District(100-3) and Ann Arbor District(114-1). Here's a photo: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/img...f1bd7f62_l.jpg *Note - the above photo was taken with our old minibot at Waterford. I dont have any pictures of us but here is our youtube account with a couple videos from Boilermaker Regional.
http://www.youtube.com/user/FRCIcaru.../1/yrCeEwpm_-Q We scored 5-8 tubes a match (not counting a first couple matches where we were getting used to things), by saturday our minibot was 100% successful with a time of about 2 seconds with deployment, We went 17-0 and won the regional. If scouts want any more info just send me a pm and ill be glad to help you out. |

Re: 2011 Curie Division

Alright, fine. So here's 57 along with some brief specs. Pictures courtesy Ron Gillory, http://www.sezron.com:
- Half-Octanum* drive (4 Mecanums, 2 Stickies), never measured it, but about 12-15fps in Mecanum - Pivot-telescoping arm - Spring-loaded Roller Claw, driven by two independent RS-395s through 131:1 P60s. Spring loading = Who cares about over-inflation? Also, rotating a square around the corner is just amusing. - New for Champs, 1.2s (fully charged) minibot, with a pretty reliable and forgiving deployment. Should be about 1.5-1.7 with deploy. - Reliable High-Uber Autonomous, once we work out the distances. - Regularly scoring 2 High logos by our lonesome. I'm rather pleased with the whole robot at this point. Our biggest letdown was our original Big'n'Slow(tm) minibot that didn't even benefit from reliability. We've since cribbed notes from the Discobots (2587), improving their design and working out a rather faster "align-wait-fire" style deployment system. I'm told by my students and co-mentors that I'm banned from further tweaking on the minibot, so this looks like what we're going with. The only thing I'd change at this point is the half-Octanum*. We started with a whole Octanum* and ended up about 6 lbs over, so the choice was pretty obvious. If anyone has 6 lbs of robot weight to lend us, we'd looooove to toss the other half on. As it is, we'll have it available to us at Champs to swap in some lower geared stickies, and in case of extreme emergency. (eg. Oh no, the arm's a pretzel!) *Yes, I know the accepted spelling is Octocanum. I think mine's easier to say and just as descriptive. |

Here is 103. With the same lift and gripper design as 25, this machine is one of the best bots we have ever created. (Pictures courtesy of Kelly Szymanowski(my sister))
The biggest problem we have is the swaying of the tower. It was designed with a spring system in the bottom, but it swayed way too much with that, so we added a strut with a dampener to make it more sturdy. That solved that problem for the most part. Other than that, I would say our second biggest weakness is our minibot deployment. It is not extremely fast, but it is reliable. The only problem with deployment is that we use the shifters to launch it out, so we cannot switch gears until the end of the match or the minibot will launch without us wanting it to. |

Autonomous- hangs one tube (will be consistent once replacement parts come in) on high Teleop- can hang any tube anywhere Endgame- linear slide minibot lancher poowed by a window motor, latest minibot is held in with a cable and hitch pin system. the minibot latches onto the pole with 2 70lb (force) wind turbine magnets. current minbot goes up in 4 seconds (a direct drive version may be made) mechanics: drivetrain: high speed mecanum (4x cims/ TB nanos). it is normally run at 50% power for preciceness and rant at full poer for speed when the "turbo" trigger is held. arm: the robot uses a 3 stage arm controlled by 2 geared down BB 550's and 2 springs. all 3 segments work in sync by a cable/pulley system. a 550 or an FP will be on the wrist and the gripper also has a bb motor (forgot the model). the arm, wrist, and gripper all have analog encoders for precise preset positions. the robot has a low center of gravity (it has never come close to tipping). the robot has a direct fed (though AP, bypassing the cRIO) camera, controlled by a tilt servo (180 degrees). the current code (perfected tonight) gives drivers real-time video with crosshairs for guiding when the camera is facing forward, and when it faces backwards (to launch minibot), the crosshairs switch to 2 vertical lines (to line up with pole) and the image rotates 180 degrees. the tilt angle is set by the driver's righthand throttle. the current arm (not used in regionals) is being used on a practice clone chassis, and at 23lb, it will be brought in as withholding allowance material. Good luck to curie! Minibot- linear slide launcher (cab |

Team 1923's robot specs:
Reliable autonomous with scoring on top row (has only failed to get points once at CT) Can score on all three pegs and averages about 1-1.5 logos per match Has set the high score at NJ of 124 with teams 25 and 1860 Has set the high score at CT of 123 with teams 195 and 155 Third seed at NJ, first seed at CT, winner at CT ~1.3 second minibot w/o deployment (wasn't there at jersey), not timed w/ deployment, estimated 2 second deploy and climb The inspiration for this minibot is from Team 40(Trinity Robotics from Manchester NH). Thank you for being gracious competitors and helping us out! Here's some video of us in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1G62Ds2riHA and pictures: http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5180/...71e5e608_o.jpg http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5092/...9f70d16a_o.jpg http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5131/...bbb7d6e4_o.jpg SEE YOU GUYS ON THE FIELD! |
Re: 2011 Curie Division
Can't wait! Team 3459 is an all rookie team. None of us have never done this before! We placed 7th out of 52 at our regional, and are thrilled about going to St. Louis. We think we have a pretty good robot. We were going to borrow a minibot from a team at the NC regional, but we never got in contact with them. Don't know how we'll do, but we'll see! See you all in St. Louis!
