"unknown device id (0)" error - IFI Loader - Cortex

Hi,

I'm trying to use the IFI Loader (the latest version available here : http://www.vexforum.com/wiki/index.p...are_Downloads), but I always get the same error when trying to download a hex or bin file to the Cortex : "unknown device ID (0)"

Here's what I've tried so far to get rid of this problem :
  1. I tried the cable with a PIC micro-controller, still using the IFI Loader : everything worked perfectly
  2. I tried to connect the cable directly on my serial port, but I got the same error
  3. I ran the VEXnet Firmware Upgrade Utility to be sure that everything is up to date, but it didn't change anything
  4. I installed the trial version of RobotC, and tried to download a sample program with it : it worked
  5. Back in the IFI Loader, I changed the COM port, but none of them worked
  6. the "Controller verification" routine gives a correct answer : "Controller verification complete ... "

I don't know what to do now.
Does anybody know how to solve this problem ?

Thanks

Re: "unknown device id (0)" error - IFI Loader - Cortex

The IFI loader is designed to load code on to a Microchip PIC18 microcontroller... not a Cortex.

I don't know anything about the Cortex controller for VEX, I suggest you read the documentation on this site:

Interesting ! So how can you download files to the cortex, without using RobotC nor EasyC ? Is there a specific loader or something ?

Thanks in advance

I believe you need an easyC or the ROBOTC package... I'm not 100% sure on this, but by reading some documentation, I have that assumption.
