The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
|
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
This is absolutely amazing.
Beautifully designed with a superb manipulator / arm combo. Oh and kudos to the programmers :) |
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
Neat! How consistent is it?
|
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
That is simply absurd. I firmly believed this would not be possible. Congratulations to whoever programmed that.
|
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
i'm amazed, are you guys using line tracking, vision targets, both or just dead reckoning? anyhow, that's an awesome autonomous period. I bet it was pretty hard to code!
|
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
:ahh: Simply stunning
|

But so far 4 for 4. More consistent than our single tube if you don't think too hard. |

Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
Extremely impressive. Kudos on being able to get 3 tubes on the rack in 15 seconds, let alone in autonomous!

Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
Amazing, just fantastic! Props your programmers for all their hard work on getting it to work!
|
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
This is absolutely brilliant. It will be even more amazing if Pink can pull this off in an actual match at St. Louis... I'll be watching them closely.
Think about it: If Pink can score 3 Ubertubes in auton, score 6 tubes on the top row, and get first place in the minibot race, that's 102 points easily achieved by one robot. No need for any other robots on Pink's alliance. Amazing. To Jay, Taylor, Luke, Deanna, and all you 67 programmers (I know you read these forums): Do this. |

this is probably the coolest autonomous mode ever.. :yikes: |
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
Wow, really awesome guys.
..Plus I won my early season bet with Ike. Thank you Pink Team, you just made my day. |
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
Holy.
Freaking. Crap. Well done, Pink Team. Well done! |
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
I just died a little...
But congratulations on the 3 tube auto! That is one thing I firmly believed impossible. |
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
Very impressive. Good work on a 3tube auto period. If your drivers can drive anywhere near as well as your programmers can program, I can bet its safe to say we'll see you go far in StL.
|
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
YES! Congrats guys, this is amazing. Pink once again proves they are the master of the innertubes. I hope to see you guys on Einstein again!
|
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
Pink had an advantage, their robot was built on day 1 :P Pretty outstanding feat of building a robot capable of this, and having programmers able to utilize the available resources and tools to do this.
|
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
Wow. Just wow.
As usually, kudos to the Pink Team for doing something absolutely awesome. |

Well done! Hopefully we can compete with you in Newton this year. Last time we were at Championships (2006), I don't think we were ever paired up. Good luck, and see you in a few days.
|
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
Wow. That's ridiculous... There is a reason why Pink is always on Einstein, stuff like this. Well done!
|
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
That was amazing. I really hope i get to see this live in St. Louis.
|
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
wowowowowow! :ahh: that is insane! very well done!
|
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
YES!
THANK YOU! |
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous

At first I thought that this auton would be useless after qualifications are over, but then I realized that if it's consistent enough, it could potentially be better than three robots trying to put up three tubes and interfering with each other. This was a big problem at MSC. |
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
Psssh the yooper troopers had a six tube auton two weeks ago. But seriously this game was built built for the pink team they have been building the telescoping arm since before I've been in first. I think this could be their year to win Einstein.

Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
This is the reason why I do FIRST...
Bravo! |
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
Very Nice, After I saw 33 do two at Kettering at week 1, I would see 3...
(Not from our team...) BRAVO! |
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
Absolutely wonderful. Good luck in Saint Louis! (I'll be cheering from Archimedes for you guys!)
|
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
If only standing ovations were possible over the Internet. Congratulations, Pink Team! This is amazing.
|
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
:O, truly incredible. This is why I can honestly say you guys are one of my favorite teams out there. Can't wait to see you guys down in St.Louis, I believe you'll actually be in the pit right next to us, so stop by if you even need anything!

Four of four successes? Insane!

Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
Absolutely stunning. The crazy part is that it doesn't LOOK that fast on video, yet it's done very close to being perfectly in time (hard to judge from the video). Getting something like that working, even in the shop, is a huge accomplishment. Now if you can do it during a match at St. Louis, THAT will be impressive!
|
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
Great... Were in the same division. LOL jk. It will be crazy! And although galieo will be the one to watch newton will definately have something to show for!!!
|
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
Congrats, I didn't think anyone would be fast enough to get 3 Ubers under the 15 sec time limit in the regular season. It looks like you may just do it.
I would say I hope you get an opportunity to run it in a qualification match, but that is probably a double edged sword. There are only 3 situations where I can see myself trying that risky for the first time in a CMP qualifying match 1. My partners both have no/low percentage autonomous so it is the only good choice. 2. A late match, where the rest of the alliance has little chance of making elims so try just try it. 3. Blowout highly likely, go for style points  For example if the scheduler decided to mathcup 148/217/233 vs. a negative OPR alliance (the kind of match last year where smart opposition would go 6v0, we faced 217 with a good alliance last year and quickly wrote an auto that scored for them) 2 of those 3 options are not favorable. I think they will get several opportunities to run a double Uber since not everyone at CMP has a consistent enough auto, but it is hard to give up a sure Uber on the other side to roll the dice. I know at Philly some teams came into the strategy meeting asking us to run our double instead of their auto because the percentages were better (we were on a long streak of hitting 2) I am not even sure they will get a chance to practice it on Thursday morning. Everyone wants to check that their auto works, especially if it is not consistent. Maybe in later practice matches, some fill teams and/or teams with tested consistent auto will allow them to try it. Personally, I am concerned that my team will not get enough opportunities to run a 2 tube auto to confirm that it will work on this Curie field (It worked so well on Philly field, and I don't even want to think about the switch to Archi). The thing about using only encoders and gyro (like Pink, us and most of the 2 tube teams) is the auto is repeatable, but not adaptable (to differences in setup or field). When we run a single tube, we have time to use ultrasonics to adapt to a difference from the expected distance. Pink's gripper is amazing, but I don't know how many inches of tolerance they have when they are intentionally grabbing the tube offset so far to the left (for our experience, once we got the distance correct, all our misses are setup errors where we miss the grab on a misplaced tube). (Note: I wrote this in 2 parts, I just realized how tl;dr it turned out. I guess multi tube auto is just on my mind) Quote:

Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
One thing I wonder about is - that 3rd tube looks awfully close to scoring right at the 15-second mark. Do they risk scoring late and having to remove the thing at the start of teleop to avoid penalty?
The lack of any time cushion at the end makes it a risky play. But very cool regardless! |

See you down there Thursday! |
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
It looks like you guys changed you minibot deployment.

Great job guys. I didn't think we would see this until IRI. This is the perfect architectur of bot to execute this move. Very impressive. |
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous

And btw the tube is offset so we don't sideswipe the second tube that lays on the ground as we drive out. We will adjust it to grab the next two in the center. The new scoring sequence doesnt hit the pegs. |
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
Quote:
My guess is -- it won't be necessary in IRI. At Champs, I assume they will use a two tube variant in qualification makes. |
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
wow that was amazing. i remember word floating around during dc that pink had a 3-tube auton. i was disappointed to not see it. what division is pink on? (yeah im too lazy to look it up myself :P) im deff gonna be watching the webcast to see if you guys can pull it off!
awesome job! |

Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
This feat is astounding.
We were able to observe the PINK team carefully and methodically push through their issues (PINK ever has issues with their bot??? No way! :ahh:) in DC, which was truly the most inspirational part of their team to us. If this is actually performed in a match and winds up on TBA, it will probably be one of the most watched matches of the season. |

Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
So have they managed to do this awesomeness at the championship yet?
|
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
word on the street is yes, and it's been successful, but I'd like to see some youtube proof.
simply amazing, way to go 233!! (I remember when I got excited about 2 ubers by 148, week 1...) |
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous

A possible idea for fun in the off-season: There should be a autonomous "style" contest at an off-season event. Judges rate the robot on how cool its autonomous is. E.g. Spins, picking first tube off ground before hanging (910 for example), and double/triple tube autonomous (bonus for going within the 15 second time limit) |
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
From what I've heard it was only in practice..
|
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
People that don't know or do programming don't understand how hard this is. Kudos to Pink, kicking butt like usual. Hope to see you guys at Einstein.

Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous

We still have an assortment of issues to work out: new minibot not deploying, minor kinks in autonomous, tubes seem overinflated so adjustments on the gripper is needed. Just a little frustrating yesterday but it is how it goes. I am hoping we can resolve them and look strong by the end of the day today (preferably sooner). |
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
Amazing!
|
Re: The Pink Team 3 Tube Autonomous
We ran it in a real match and first try it ran perfectly but we were so excited we put the 3rd tube in the wrong spot, so I'm pretty bummed. Since our gyro seems to been having a slow and painful death, or something else is causing the robot not to track straight, but it seems alright now for at least one or two since we put a new one on.
