AdamBots 2011 Relay for Life

AdamBots, Team 245 (Rochester Hills, Michigan), is participating in our local Relay for Life, the 2011 Relay For Life of the Greater Rochester Area (June 25-26th, 2011), benefiting the American Cancer Society and we need your help! We would like to reach and exceed our team goal of $2,000

What is Relay for Life?

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At Relay, teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length.

Relay began in 1985 when Dr. Gordy Klatt, a colorectal surgeon in Tacoma, Washington, ran and walked around a track for 24 hours to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Since then, Relay has grown from a single man’s passion to fight cancer into the world’s largest movement to end the disease. Each year, more than 3.5 million people in 5,000 communities in the United States, along with additional communities in 20 other countries, gather to take part in this global phenomenon and raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer. Thanks to Relay participants, the American Cancer Society continues to save lives.

Re: AdamBots 2011 Relay for Life

Hey guys, I really appreciate what you all are doing. As kid whose done cancer research for 5 years now and an exec member on my Relay for life organization at my school, I'm glad to see that a FIRST team has formed a group to help raise money for the cause.
We did a similar thing with our "fanbase" for Japan. We asked people to donate a penny for every point our alliances scored. This added to less than $13 a regional per participant, but it was definitely a fun way to tie it all together. You could take that model and ask your parent's, mentors, sponsors, administration, and friends to participate in it.

Also, how much are your ducks?

Thanks. This is our team's 6th year of participation in the Relay For Life of the Greater Rochester Area.

We are not asking for a "specific amount" for the ducks. All we ask is that you donate something. At the Michigan State Championship we got anything from a quarter to a $10 bill.
