Converting team number to team nickname
Is there a fast and/or efficient method for turning a list of team numbers into their corresponding information, like team nickname? I compiled a championship team list spreadsheet but the "team name" field is impossibly wordy, despite its obvious worthiness. It reminds me of the difference between the Latin names and common names of flowers, for instance. Miss Daisy could more properly be called Miss Bellis perennis. For that, we truly would miss "daisy."

That's spectacular, Ed. How did you do that? I was looking for a method to do it, but I'll take your table as it stands with gratitude and worry about the process later. Thanks.

FIRST doesn't link to it, they link you to the page intended for humans to read. At a meeting, right after divisions were released, people were asking me to show them the division. I had the FMS page loaded but no Internet, so I showed them that and all I got was  I told them that is just how I look at divisions. Both "pages" are really just differently formatted queries to the same TIMS database. I see from your signature, you volunteer as an inspector (as do I). This is really knowledge that FTAs and scorekeepers acquire. If you know some, you can learn a lot from them about the FMS. If you don't know any, just listen to the ones on CD when they speak. |

That is the site I got my data from. I learned it from Pat Fairbank. If you search it hard enough on CD, you would have found that post from last year.

I actually wish Pat would keep them around and expand them to all regionals. It is really useful for advance scouting regionals (I lookup who in webcast regionals is coming to my regional using simple unix commands on text files) and it is annoying looking up event IDs. |
