To all 2011 Dean's List Finalists
Please pass the following information around to your Dean's List Finalist recipients!:
The 2011 Championship's creeps ever closer, and the highly anticipated Dean's List award ceremony will be well underway along with all other occurring events this coming week, and weekend! First off, congratulations to ALL 2011 recipients! The 2010 class is happy to have you aboard in this well honored title. Now some of you are probably wondering how it works if you're a Dean's list Finalist at the FIRST Championship, and want to know what it was like for us of the 2010 class to roam the grounds of Atlanta. So here's my answer to all of you: The truth is, there isn't any real special treatment. You're just the same as the kid next to you! Remember that the Dean's list award is a representation that you as a student are a leader among your peers and other FRC teams. So, what do I do then? Do what you always do at your FRC competitions and show others why you're a Dean's list finalist! Logistics If it's anything like last year, the following things should be done: Sign In. Last year, the sign in was a Pit Admin, so tune in to Emcee announcements and Pit Admin announcements to find out the who, what, when, where. Signing in allows FIRST to know who's present at the Championship (more details below). Retrieve Yellow Button! At the FIRST Championship last year, a volunteering Dean's List Finalist (Brandon Dean) started a tradition, where he created yellow Dean's List buttons for Finalists to wear throughout the competition event so that said finalists could be recognized, because unfortunately, FIRST doesn't give you anything "official" until post-competition (with the exception of your cert from the regional and any Championship winnings). This year, I picked up the tradition and punched out all the yellow buttons for the 2011 recipients! So, wherever you sign in, be sure to ask for one of the yellow Dean's list buttons. (I will deliver them to Pit Admin ASAP or wherever finalists must sign in). Attend Dean's List Award Ceremony As far as I know it's scheduled for Friday, April 29th at 12pm in the Ballroom and runs until 1pm (which is conveniently ALSO when the FRC break is before QT matches). If this is incorrect or changes at any given point in time, please post the new time, and I will immediately edit my post! Thanks in advance! What are these Championship winnings? Last year, all 90+ finalists received a Nike backpack full of tshirts, hats, socks, a pair of Dr. Dre Beats headphones, $100 giftcard (to some department store), FLIP Camera and many other giveaways. As such, if this tradition continues, it's important to sign in! This will indicated whether FIRST needs to ship the goods to you if you couldn't attend! When you attend the Dean's List awards ceremony, BE SURE to listen to what they list off as "giveaways" in your package, because last year, some of us found that we were missing items, or never found them because they were hidden in small compartments (like the gift card, which was in a small zipped compartment in the back of the backpack). --------- Keeping in touch & staying posted As of right now, Brandon, Kyle and I are still trying to connect all the 2011 Dean's List recipients through social networking...AKA Facebook. Kyle is still working on the full Dean's List recipient list which is located here: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...28#post1035528 If you know someone who is missing from the list, please post in that thread! There is an official Dean's List Facebook Group that we'd like all recipients to join. It is invite only though, so you need to friend me, Brandon or Kyle to get a hold on joining. Finally, Robo Prom...It has been one of the most popular events of the competition season, and is a great place for people to meet up and have a fun evening of crazy wild lights, music, dancing & more! Amidst all the partying it's also become one of the the best opportunities for Dean's List finalist to meet up, in fact, that's how some of us finally came to catch up and really "meet" each other (we all friended up on Facebook!) So consider purchasing a ticket, and come meet other FRC team members! http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=90107 We ask that all Dean's list recipients wear their yellow pins to this event so it's easy to find you! --------- So, as much as I'd like to share my FIRST Championship Dean's List experience, this was quite the hefty post, and all I wanted was to get some information out to you guys! Sorry it was soo so so sooo long! Please don't hesitate to ask questions! Crystal. |
Re: To all 2011 Dean's List Finalists
Thanks for filling us in on everything! I'm super excited to be able to add such a special button to my FIRST button collection! :D
My team (LASA Robotics, FRC 418) won the Dallas Regional Engineering Inspiration award, but unfortunately couldn't attend Championships this year (we'll be there next year, promise). I'm going to be there on Thursday and Friday though, and I can't wait to meet ya'll (I had to throw some Texas in there, haha). |
Re: To all 2011 Dean's List Finalists
I hope everyone else is as excited as I am! So many more amazing opportunities keep coming at us! This is such a great honor!
I'm sure everyone has already recieved the info, but I wanted to add about arriving early (from one of the previous emails): "On Friday, I need you in the Ballroom by 11:30 AM as we are filming and will need to keep to a tight time frame." (emphasis mine! sorry, I've been waiting to do that) Hope this helps! Can't wait to meet everyone! PS: Pink's ready to bring the party!!! |
Re: To all 2011 Dean's List Finalists

Re: To all 2011 Dean's List Finalists
OK Dean's List Finalist, a challenge for you...
What is the elevator pitch for describing the Dean's List? |
Re: To all 2011 Dean's List Finalists
"It's an award that celebrates a student's leadership abilities, technical skill, creativity, ability to motivate others, and commitment to FIRST and it's goals." is my usual response.
|
Re: To all 2011 Dean's List Finalists
"You know how I am about robotics? Yeah they made an award for that."
:P (My real one isn't too well rehearsed... I tend to avoid the conversation) |
Re: To all 2011 Dean's List Finalists
When talking to newer robotics kids :
"Have you heard of the Woodie Flowers Award? Well, Dean's List is like that, but for student members" When talking to family members/people from school : "Dean's List is an award that rewards members who give 110% of their time, effort, and care to elevating their team to the next level, without expecting anything in return. It's an award that celebrates a student's technical expertise, their ability to inspire in their teammates a spirit of pride, professionalism, and passion, and the student's endeavors to bring the message of FIRST to everyone they come into contact with." Well, those are the short versions anyway... |
Re: To all 2011 Dean's List Finalists
If our Deans List nominee is unable to attend should we send someone to pick up her stuff and to accept for her should she make finalist?

Re: To all 2011 Dean's List Finalists
I have to ask...Who won?? I wasn't able to go to the ceremony today but I know someone who won at the Philadelphia Regional (Mark Callow) and would love to know whether he won or not. :)

Michael Violet from AIR Strike was one of them

Re: To all 2011 Dean's List Finalists
Does anyone have a complete list of the 2011 Dean's List Winners?
|
Re: To all 2011 Dean's List Finalists
I think we're still scrambling to work on it.
Tina Dutra from 228, GUS. Michael Violet from 78, AIR Strike. Santiago Garza from 2543, TitanBOT. Lydia Johnston from 1983, Skunkworks Robotics. Cody Wall from 987, Epstein. That's what I've got so far. |
Re: To all 2011 Dean's List Finalists
Cody Wall-Epstein from 987 was also selected!
|
Re: To all 2011 Dean's List Finalists
Going to use a picture from the ceremony, and just match it up.
|
Re: To all 2011 Dean's List Finalists
<rant> If this is such a big award (and I believe it is), why do we have various individuals trying to piece this together from videos, pictures, personal attendance? This should be part of the championships list of award winners and posted front and center on the FRC homepage. </rant>
Thank you to those trying to put together the list of the Dean's List Finalists. |

Re: To all 2011 Dean's List Finalists
Have any Dean's List winners found out yet when their visit to various colleges and Manchester will take place? Our team's winner has been waiting to hear back from FIRST and we are trying to figure out if he will be able to join us at IRI.
