Using the cRIO without Driver Station

We are working on a project that we would like to use the cRIO as our controller for but we do not want to have to have a drivers station attached as it will be completely autonomous.

The R in cRIO is for Reconfigurable. With the right tools, this is definitely doable. If the project needs similar inputs, outputs, and safety resources, then the FIRST FPGA image may be the best choice, but yes, the FIRST system requires a driver station with safety capabilities to be present.

Using MAX and/or the LV tools, you can likely select between a few different and generic FPGA images. If you would like to define your own, contact NI, or drop by the booth in St Louis, and ask about them.

Sadly, we won't be in St. Louis, but I'll take a look tomorrow and see what I can come up with. I'll probably be back though, asking for help.

Do you have the old Driver station from 2009? I just happen to have an idea for your project. If you can power the old Driver Station from the PD then you can attach that to your robot and just click on the autonomous button to do the rest. No wireless necessary. All connection can be done using ethernet tethering. You can even put the stop button on that project to keep it as a safety measure. What do you think?

That's what we were going to try to do but it only works some of the time...We kinda wired it backwards...it started smoking.

I can't figure out how to apply a different generic image. Anyone know how to do this?

Sorry for the loss. Maybe another team can donate their unused 2009 DS to you. Have you guys also considered another controller system?

400 dollars might be expensive but it may prove useful on the long run.
