Where does the name ChiefDelphi come from?

I've always wonder, why would you name a FIRST forum chiefdelphi instead of FIRSTforums.net or something of the sort. A name that would relate to first.

So why is chiefdelphi named chiefdelphi?

Chief Delphi was FRC 47--official name Delphi and Pontiac Central High School (whose mascot was the Chief). After their school closed in 2009, the school they merged with (which was 65, the Huskie Brigade) created a new-but-not-rookie team, the current 51 (Wings of Fire).

Looking back through Team 48 archives on the Delphi network the other day, I found this 1998 email from Joe Johnson, he of Team 47 mentor fame, to FRC team leaders. I believe this refers to the very beginning of the Chief Delphi forums, so I figure it is relevant here!

To FIRST TEAMS Everywhere,

Hello, I am Joe Johnson, an engineer at Delphi and a FIRST team member
(Pontiac Central -- Delphi Interior and Lighting #47). I want to take a
minute to encourage you to visit our website. In particular, I want to
encourage you to go to our wwwboards.

These discussion forums (fora?) are meant to foster team to team
communication.
Like it or not, FIRST is growing up. Us kids should begin to develop our own
relationships independent of mom & dad back in NH. We hope that our wwwboards
are a first step in that direction.

I will tantalize you by saying some important information concerning various
kit components donated by Delphi to the 1998 Kit will be posted on one of the
wwwboards (http://www.pchs-delphi.com/1998/wwwboard/kit).

Our web boards let you read and post messages on a variety of subjects. If
you have ideas for
new discussion forums we are open to suggestions. The following is a list of
the topics currently available:

General: (http://www.pchs-delphi.com/1998/wwwboard/general)
Post questions of general interest here.

Kit Information / Swap-O-Rama: (http://www.pchs-delphi.com/1998/wwwboard/kit)

Found a good place to find cheap drills? Have the specs on a motor that is in
the kit? Fried your
pneumatic motor and are willing to trade for two servos and anything from
hardware bag #2?
This is the place to get the word out!

The Rumor Mill: (http://www.pchs-delphi.com/1998/wwwboard/rumor)
Post fun or serious rumors you have heard. Make them up if you have to.
Check out this site
when your stressing and you want to relax for a bit.

Rules: (http://www.pchs-delphi.com/1998/wwwboard/rules)
What do you think about the latest rules clarification? Should we storm the
castle or should we hold our fire for another day? Do you have an opinion
about tipping, pinning, non-detachable robots, etc.? Share your thoughts and
learn of other peoples’

Congratulations to Joe on starting something that has brought so much value to a community. It's cool how some little something that somebody starts can grow into an awesome resource.

I thinks it's time to go chip in a nickel or two to support the site: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/advertisers.php?

So what makes this forum survive when I'm sure others have tried the same thing?
