Can't Image cRio

We are changing from LabView to C++ programming. I've been trying to re-image the cRio to work with C++, but re-imaging keeps failing:

Quote:

Unable to complete operation because of unexpected error:
Error 66 occurred at TCP Read in NI_InternetTK_Common_VIs.lvlib:TCP Read xTP Reply.vi:3->NI_InternetTK_FTP_VIs.lvlib:FTP Get Command Reply.vi:2->NI_InternetTK_FTP_VIs.lvlib:FTP Command.vi:1->NI_InternetTK_FTP_VIs.lvlib:FTP [QUIT].vi->NI_InternetTK_FTP_VIs.lvlib:FTP Close Session.vi:4->Format Target.vi->ConfigUtility.lvlib:ReImageTarget.vi->ConfigUtility.lvlib:Dialog.vi

Possible reason(s):

LabVIEW: The network connection was closed by the peer. If you are using the Open VI Reference function on a remote VI Server connection, verify that the machine is allowed access by selecting Tools>>Options>>VI Server:Machine Access on the server side.
I started the installation on a computer that has never been used to program the cRio before. I followed the installation instructions. I've installed the LabView tools (not all of LabView). I went through and found all of the updates I could locate and installed those.

I can image the cRio from another system that has LabView installed, but not WindRiver, so it's not anything to do with the cRio.

I haven't been able to image for LabView, Java, or C++. When I do a full re-image (ie Safe Mode off), the imaging seems to work, but the final are where the failure occurs. For a normal re-image, it seems to fail almost right away.

I would appreciate any kinds of ideas for how to work out what the problem might be.

Thanks.

Re: Can't Image cRio

I had to ask the question in order to find the answer.

Thanks to this post that explained the situation with networking on some machines. I was using "one of those machines" that reconfigure the network as the port goes up and down.

Inserting a hub between the computer and the cRio fixed the problem.

Go figure. Sad.

Thanks to a post from Mark McLeod that explained the situation with networking on some machines. I was using "one of those machines" that reset the ethernet port as the port goes up and down.

Would you please edit your post and add a link to the post from Mark that you found helpful?

Thanks!

Okay so please clarify...even with a regular c-rio reimage it wont work?
if so,

~Make sure that you can either ping or use Measurement Automation explorer. ping 10.xx.xx.another number dont forget your team number once to replace the x's.
~If not please check the wireless. If it is on please turn it off.
~Also please check your firewall. This being on can interfere with the connection between the computer and the c-rio.
~Also you will probably have to power cycle your robot.
~Also make sure your computer is not on "Get connections automatically" please set your computer to for example 10.00.00.99 (replace the zeros with your team's number)
~Also please connect to a router if you havent already.

Please tell if any of this works, I havent worked with c++ so I dont know the nitty gritty but this is a start.

Re: Can't Image cRio

I should have been more clear. I was using the cRio imaging tool, selecting WindRiver C++ and imaging with the latest (v29?) image.

The connection mostly works. Some part of the imaging would work and then later fail.

Windows asks. I disabled.

Fixed IP address.

Ding, ding, ding. A winner! I found the notion that inserting a hub would fix that problem so lame that I ignored it for a way too long time. (A router is not required; a simple hub works just fine.)

It is sad that this is a problem. Networking should not be that hard.
