Thanks for putting this event together! We find it as an excellent way to gauge new drivers' skills. It is always a pleasure seeing fellow SoCal teams at this event! |

The 10-point differential between 1st and 2nd place in the minibot race in the "official" game rules too often overwhelmed scoring of game pieces. Many minibot races were decided by fractions of a second. Equalizing 1st and 2nd place minibot scores restored the importance of performing well in the other 99% of the match. Allowing ubertubes to be placed on the racks after autonomous to double the point value of tubes subsequently scored boosted match scores significantly. The six-point per ubertube bonus seemed to be an adequate reward for success in autonomous mode. We are leaning towards IRI game rules, but haven't discussed serpentine alliance selection yet. We'll make a final decision in the next two weeks. |

Pre-Rookies, teams that are just forming and have not participated in an official FIRST event, are also welcome. We try and find a robot for Pre-Rookies to drive and find out what it is like to be "behind the glass" Pre-Rookies traditionally are not required to pay the entry fee. |
Re: 2011 SCRRF Fall Classic - Burbank, CA
Team 3647 from SD will be probably coming up.
Got to iron out a few details x] Can't wait! This was just our rookie season. |

Re: 2011 SCRRF Fall Classic - Burbank, CA
That's what we are doing. Currently working on a custom gearbox to power our new arm, since the one we used for competition failed. It's so much more "fun" without the pressure of a ship date breathing down your neck.
|
Re: 2011 SCRRF Fall Classic - Burbank, CA
Yeah, we are redoing our pick up arm currently. Along with welding up pieces that have fallen off.

Re: 2011 SCRRF Fall Classic - Burbank, CA
Apparently, I will be making an appearance as well. Hmm...
Overall, really excited to see what California teams have to offer. I have only heard so much great and positive comments from out here on the east coast. |
Re: 2011 SCRRF Fall Classic - Burbank, CA
I know it is a little early to know, but how many matches are teams looking at playing?
Thanks, Jeremy |
Re: 2011 SCRRF Fall Classic - Burbank, CA
Quote:
The number of matches per teams obviously depends upon the number of teams. With 24 teams, playing 6 to 7 matches in the qualification round is expected. A few teams may play that many in the elimination rounds. |
Re: 2011 SCRRF Fall Classic - Burbank, CA
Will it be a FMS set up? Or will be using bridges?

Re: 2011 SCRRF Fall Classic - Burbank, CA
2011 Fall Classic Update
With three weeks until the event, we are over half-capacity for teams. Already, an impressive field has registered, including: FRC 973 (2011 World Champions), FRC 1538 (SVR Winner), FRC 399 (Utah Regional Winner), FRC 1323 (SVR Finalist). We are planning a Team Social for the Fall Classic! We're looking at live music entertainment and concessions, starting right after the WRRF field is loaded onto the truck. Please register your team at http://larobotics.org/FallClassic2011.html. Don't get shutout - discounted registration until Sept 16! Further information (agenda, possible rule changes, local hotels, etc.) for teams interested in the event is available at https://sites.google.com/site/frc980/ Get ready for some ACTION!! |
Re: 2011 SCRRF Fall Classic - Burbank, CA
Hey Dave,
We are doing final assembly after a complete rebuild of our robot. If we get done by the end of this week, then we will be signing up. Of course I'll be there the night before to help setup. Can't miss out on that fun ;> |
Re: 2011 SCRRF Fall Classic - Burbank, CA
Team 1138 is looking forward to this event. And i personally can't wait til this competition. :D
|
Re: 2011 SCRRF Fall Classic - Burbank, CA
Very much looking forward to the event. I'm using it as a recruitment tool. Youtube videos can only show a fraction of the excitement at the live event. Hopefully we can get 10 new students to show up... that would bring our team up to 20 or so students!

I believe we will be using FMS Lite. The field controls should be transparent to the teams. You will have to set up your bridge for the event and it should justwork from there. |
Re: 2011 SCRRF Fall Classic - Burbank, CA
After several years of not participating, 696 will be making a return to the Fall Classic event. Look for our robot named "Reptar" with the roller claw with green wheels and orange belts.

Re: 2011 SCRRF Fall Classic - Burbank, CA
Is there a final team list?
Also, on the registration page it mentions doing a draft with 4 teams per alliance, unless 32 teams show up this seems a bit strange to me. |

Which is a long way of saying teams are still getting their acts together, even World Champs have trouble with this. |
Re: 2011 SCRRF Fall Classic - Burbank, CA
So just for clarification what are the rules at the Fall Classic? is it going to be the same as the IRI rules, or the regular season rules??

Re: 2011 SCRRF Fall Classic - Burbank, CA
Quote:
Scoring and Rule Changes Scoring and rules will be the same as the official FIRST 2011 LogoMotion game with the following exceptions:
Alliance Selection & Tournament Play With more than 20 teams competing, the elimination tournament will be played with 6 Alliances. The #1 and #2 alliances will receive "byes" in the quarterfinal round and compete as semi-finalists. Alliances will consist of four teams. Alliance selection will be in forward order (1, 2, 3, ...) for the second teams, in forward order for the third teams, and in reverse order for the fourth teams. The alliance captains will have full discretion on which three teams play each match. There is no requirement that all teams in the alliance play an elimination match. If less than 24 robots compete, the 6 alliances will consist of at least 3 teams. Alliances will select fourth team members in the last (serpentine) round until no robots remain. Semifinal alliances with 3 robots will select 4th robots from teams eliminated in the quarterfinals (in serpentine order). Alliances are allowed one six-minute time-out during the Tournament Play. Alliances may not give their time out to the other alliance. |

We don't want the #1 and #2 seeds to be short-changed on the number of matches played. |
Re: 2011 SCRRF Fall Classic - Burbank, CA
Any of the teams coming have a spare jaguar by any chance? Just blew one tonight on our newest creation and it puts a serious damper on drive.

A very successful 2011 SCRRF Fall Classic is in the books!
Many thanks to WRRF for providing the field, BAE Systems for covering transportation and materials, Los Angeles Region FLL for power distribution and audio video equipment, and, most importantly, all the volunteers (field setup/teardown, referees, scorekeepers, field reset) so critical to the success of the event. Before the elimination matches, a brief ceremony was held thanking Jim Beck for his service and dedication to FIRST Robotics in Southern California. Student representatives from each team gave a brief "thank you" and shook hands with Jim. The elimination round included six alliances, with single-match eliminations in the first round. The event culminated in a very exciting set of finals matches, requiring three games to decide the Championship. Team 696 (Circuit Breakers) were called upon as a back-up robot in the Finals by the #4 alliance. Here are the results: ![]() |

Re: 2011 SCRRF Fall Classic - Burbank, CA
On behalf of team 399, I'd like to thank quite a few entities...
Thanks to SCRRF, team 980, and all volunteers for making this a great event! Thanks to our elimination partners, 3647, 980, and 696 for an awesome run in the elims and helping us to make a third consecutive appearance in the finals! Too bad we couldn't pull out a win as we've done in the past two years, but it was an awesome run nonetheless! Thanks to 696 for coming in during the finals and assisting us in lieu of 980. Thanks to 973, 1538, and 3973 for giving us a great set of 3 finals matches! Congrats on your win! Thanks to 696, 362, and 1138(in the quarterfinals) and 1197, 330, and 702(in the semifinals) for giving our drive team a really exciting set of matches! Thanks to team 1323 for letting two of our members drive your robot! I was the member who drove during the last two qual matches. Also, thanks for the interesting conversation between your drive coach and myself. It was great meeting a lot of people! Specifically Mk.32 from 3467, RC from 1323, and others. Thanks from myself, and 399! |
