Is Chief Delphi being down for this weekend for maintenance going to affect the drafts at all?

I don't know.

However, it will at worst force us to double/triple up drafts later on, probably the week of the 5th; at best, no disruption. I've posted in the announcement thread asking for a more specific time so we can reschedule if needed ahead of time instead of after disruption. (I also posted the typical draft-night schedule in that thread.)

Can you post a link to that thread? I can't seem to locate it.

No problem. Actually, I was thinking that I should repost the FF schedule on this page so it's available for quick reference. Drafts should start around 7 PM Eastern unless otherwise arranged.

I want to participate, but I don't think I have the time. I have been curious about this for a while, though. I will be watching...

Why don't you just PM in your list of choices in advanced?

Draft runners, it is advisable to contact Ed or myself to see if there are lists for a given draft.

So, if you know that you will not be present for a draft, (I believe, but PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong) you should PM your drafts in advance to usually either EricH or Koko Ed.

Precisely.

For example, I know for a fact that on some days I won't be able to draft (or run drafts). I will send my lists for those days in to Ed ahead of time.

You also don't need to give a full list. You can do as many or as few teams as you like. (I do every single team... but I can crank out a list in about 20 minutes with some help from Excel. Basel listed a few he wanted and took chances with the randoms after that.) Or, if you really don't know anything about the event/haven't had time to learn, declare random for the draft. (This should only be used in emergency situations, though.)

You will tell us in advance who will be running the draft, correct?

The program (above) really makes your life easier for some reason--it takes seconds to set up a given draft, and if everyone has lists in, seconds to run the draft.

Also, EricH, can you explain what the program above is/how it works? The computer I use 95% of the time is a school-issued laptop, so we cannot install outside programs. Is it necessary for drafting?

Yes. Whoever posts the draft is running the draft. Up through 12/16, it'll be either Ed or myself on double-draft nights; Ed on single-draft nights unless otherwise noted.

Yes, I can explain what it is. No, it is not necessary for drafting.

The program is designed to assist whoever is running the draft to run it. Unless you are running a draft (not to be confused with drafting, where you're picking your teams), you won't need it. Now, there will be a few days where there are two drafts and possibly only one available runner. So on those days, I highly recommend that whoever fills in use the program.

A little history on the program in question: Around the time of the 2008-9 drafts, after we'd worked out the kinks with the 2008 season (long story which I can go into later if there's demand), some of us began noticing a lot of double picks (teams being picked twice in the same tier). I decided to do something about it. I coded over a summer and a bit, and tested the system in some of the 2010 drafts. It worked, so I released it to the general Fantasy FIRST public--with a note that the source code was available on request. Not long after that, 2x Elgin Clock winner Vikesrock requested the code. By the time of the 2011 season's drafts, he'd put together a GUI and improved the program. That's the program you see today, and it's been tested through a full season of being used in drafts.
