2 logos for 2 teams in 1?

Alright so my team has merged with a team from another school but want to maintain our logo and team number but alsp want to represent them out of courtesy without going through all the paperwork to change the logo and lose our recognition with the sponsers and everyone else we have established. We have been around since 2003 so thats another reason why as well.

So the question is that if its possible for my team to have like a secondary logo to represent the other team that has joined us so long as it isnt used along with the main logo ( like using 2 logos at once) and it can be used like as if they are our sponsor or it is apart of some design?

is there anything against that or is there some way to do something like that?

FIRST has no restrictions on logos (beyond decency and GP, of course). Teams have changed identities before, either mildly (e.g. 2815 not using the robot chicken (see the corner) this year in favor of the robot's claw holding the number--though we kept the same name and color pallet) or radically (47 and 65 merging to create the all-new-but-oh-so-classic 51).

If you're trying to think of how to merge the two effectively, you might want to look at how The Business World does it. I enjoy reading Brand New, which occasionally talks mergers amongst their coverage of new brand identities.

I do not mean to change the identity but to add another one representing the team. I heard that it is too much trouble to even just adjust the design of the logo by itself ( paperwork, shirts, banner etc.). what I mean by secondary logo is another logo that represents us but represents everyone that is in it which is our original team and the other team that has merged with us.

Our logo is a robot riding a rocket to space(my profile picture gives it away), the team merged into us is a spartan head with riveted steel as the pattern. So we have space age looking logo and a spartan concept logo. The idea was to maintain our space age logo but have secondary logo with two of the mentioned concepts and combine them to make a generic representation to the current alliance we have formed and alliances that will form with us in the future.

Where in the world did you hear that?

Let's just say, it's the team's business as to their logo. You can change it every week if you like. As Billfred said, as long as the logo is in good taste, what else you do is up to you (meaning the team).

The Pi-o-neers are formed from two schools, one is the Cowboys (brown & orange) and the other is the Indians (green & white). We couldn't use either one out of fairness, so we picked a name keeping with the 'old west' theme - and picked Black & Yellow as the colors. Everyone is equally happy (or unhappy)

A spartan riding a rocket ship maybe?

My best recommendation is to ask team members to come up with ideas to join logos so both teams are fairly represented, and pick the best design. Viola! New logo.

Dress a rocket up as a Spartan Warrior.

Well, My old team was taken in by our sister team 1216, what they did was take the old shirts and cut them down the middle and took two different halves and sowed them together. Then you both have your t-shirt design. just a thought. :)

Another idea... put the "old team's" logo on your robot/shirt as team sponsors for the next few years, until there's no one left from the "old team".

And does having them as sponsors not represent them?

Remember, every time a sponsor sponsors you, and you put their logo somewhere on shirts or robots or giveaways, you are representing that sponsor. It may be indirectly, but you are still representing them.

Back to the original topic:
There are really three ways to do this. First, you could simply go with the current team logo and stuff like that. Second, you could use both logos. Third, and probably the best, is to come up with a new logo that combines the other two (or something completely different, which might be better) and phase it in--as something with one or the other old logo gets used up, the replacement has the new logo.

As for sponsor recognition, you could probably write each sponsor a letter that Team X has added Team Y and there will be a number of "look" changes coming which won't affect the purpose of the team at all.

What paperwork? (There is no paperwork.)

Don't worry about the recognition and what not, change away.

We made the change from Northside Roboteers to Texas Torque a couple years ago, huge logo and name change, no problems.

Re: 2 logos for 2 teams in 1?

We have a similar situation, but instead of merging two teams, a team in our area has lost their lea mentor and the team will now move in with us. IDK about changing everything, since we just started to make a brand of ourselves, but you could probably just ask them what they want to accommodate them. Maybe they don't want to have their name and logo on everything, or they wouldn't want everything shared. On the other hand, maybe they want everything changed. I hope not in our situation.

So, bottom line, ask THEM what they want.
