Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #374

This year team 1519 decided to do something special to mark the 20th anniversary of FIRST. They decided to rig a flux capacitor to their minibot and send it as a gift to Dean Kamen back in 1988. This is what actually gave him the idea for FIRST and explains why the robots were so small during the first year. They struggled with getting it up to 88 mph with such a short pole but eventually got it to work. Unfortunately, they set off the sprinklers in the process and created the first water game. This truly was a historic moment for FIRST in so many ways. Thank goodness someone was able to document it.

The first-place-minibot-fireworks didn't go quite as expected.

I knew it was a bad idea to name the minibot "Mount Vesuvius"!

Some people just need to see the principle demonstrated. Here we see that supersonic minibots, have a distinct skin temperature rise due to friction with the air. The sonic boom was another story. There will be a rule reflecting a max speed of less than 1000 ft./sec in the 2012 rules.
Thank You,
The Management.

The programmers thought the HCF (Halt and Catch Fire) function was just a joke and tried it it out. As seen here, the result was not pretty...

Since glass was not on the approved materials list, we had to do the minibot deployment with smoke but no mirrors.

Tetrix motors are REALLY expensive firewood. I'll leave you to decide how to interpret that statement.
