Encoder Wiring Help?
 

My (third-year) team is using the fall off-season this year to learn how to use various KoP components. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to wire the KoP encoder. I looked around for directions, but I'd really appreciate an explanation easy for an electrical-systems noob to understand. Thanks!

Did you watch the movie and did it help at all?
This connects to several of the Digital Sidecar digital inputs.

1. +5 VDC power -> 5v power
2. Quadrature A channel -> signal
3. Ground -> ground (-)
4. Quadrature B channel -> signal

To extend on this, note that the encoder wires come without a plug or terminal that you can use to interface with a Digital Sidecar or Jaguar. 694 has, for the past few years, made our own PWM cables, so with that equipment, we crimp terminals onto the encoder wires ourselves (we prepare the encoder wires in a 1x5 housing, and then have a splitter cable that goes from the 1x5 to 2 1x3s, the standard used on the sidecar, so that if we ever use Jaguars or give one to a team that does, the encoder cable can easily interface). The alternative is to solder the encoder wires to PWM cables, although I find this to be messier and less preferable. Hansen Hobbies is a great supplier of these materials.

If you do use the latter method, note that the white/yellow wire is signal, red is power, and black/(brown I believe?) is ground.
