Re: Registration 2012

20 teams added events after unrestricted registration opened at noon.

P.S.
Very preliminary at this early date, but here are the number of teams who have signed up for 5 events, 4 events, etc.
It includes Districts and Championship too.

5 Events = 2 (.1%)
4 Events = 7 (.4%)
3 Events = 93 (4.7%)
2 Events = 509 (26.0%)
1 Events = 1347 (68.8%)

----------------
Historical perspective
Last seasons final percentages were:
6 Events = .05% of all 2011 teams
5 Events = .3%
4 Events = 1.8%
3 Events = 9.6%
2 Events = 27.1%
1 Event = 61.1%

And then 772 and 781 sneak in from Ontario. It gets better!

We really want to make this a great event...The team list looks to help make that possible so far. It is awesome having a week six event.

There are still several rookie teams in the Cincinnati area not showing up on the list yet. I'm sure that is true with most events.

when all this settles down I'd like to see a chart, by region, of how many teams are registered in the region, and how many rookies are in the region.

In Georgia we are going to have 16 rookie teams. The Peachtree will go from having mid-40's team numbers to 61 teams.

yee haw !!

Mark, if you have the team info for this year I can toss together a heatmap by region if you'd like.

I'll take you up on that, I like your heat maps.

What data do you want:
  • Team coordinates
  • Team #
  • Rookie/vet flag?

That'd be great. Heck, if you'd like over time throw a year on there. CSV is easiest for me since I don't actually own Excel.

Oooooh... that would be outstanding. Thanks guys, for this effort. We often discuss how FRC is growing by referencing this thread during our company's Monday morning meetings. Maps would wow the audience.

Sincerely,
Andy Baker

Mark,
Does this include those that are signed up for the wait list for an event? or for CMP?

So if a team is signed up for three regional events and on the waitlist for CMP is that listed as 4 events or 3 by your present reckoning?

I would guess 3...you don't have access to numbers for waitlists do you?

thanks!!

Nope, those numbers don't consider any of the hidden waitlists.
Even if we could see them, that would be counting chickens a little too early.

These numbers are guaranteed to go up because of the two FiM/MAR State/Region Championships that get populated in March, the waitlists clearing eventually, and another few hundred teams showing up during the coming month.

I also went back and added a bit of historical perspective with the percentages of multi-event teams from last season.

See how this works.
Note: there is a team 0 rookie in there who hasn't been assigned a number yet.
It's in team number order with most rookies at the bottom (three new teams are mixed into the older team numbers).

It's just for 2012: team #, coord, new team flag (1=new/0=vet)

Is it any trouble to get the file with another column added with the state ?

Not needed for the heatmap but for us with the green eyeshades !

Non-Rookies

Non-Rookie Heat Map

All Teams

All Teams Heat Map

Edit: If FIRST is listening... giving us anonymous shipping addresses would be great. That would let us get a street level view of team growth.

I know I sound like a pain, we lost the rookie flag column on this sheet....

no worries, If I know the rookie start number then I can create the column and resort.

edit: NVM - I marked everything from 3925 down as rookies

CA -32
FL - 18
GA - 14 indicted, real answer will be 16
and so on down the list.

The team coordinates are off by 1 in this list, caused by team 0. They are correct in the first list.
