I was just able to register for Autodesk Oregon Regional. Not sure if they've opened up some spots or if something went horribly wrong.

I can't get to the FIRST website - must be really busy after school today.

Chris - we'll make room for you in our pit at Smoky Mountain.

Wow. Site goes down when I'm trying to register my team for the North Carolina Regional, only to come back and find that both it and the DC Regional are closed.
This certainly is not good.

Don't give up too easily. It's worth communicating with the two Regional Directors to discover what your chances are of getting into each of the events.

I'd guess North Carolina could potentially fit in 12 more teams and DC another 10.

Oregon seems to be immediately rolling the teams right over onto the team list.
They've listed 9 teams past their initially advertised capacity.

#teams past initial capacity (i.e., from the waitlists) / Event
  • -9 Autodesk Oregon Regional
  • -6 Pittsburgh Regional
  • -4 Boilermaker Regional
  • -4 BAE Systems/Granite State Regional
  • -2 SBPLI Long Island Regional
  • -2 WPI Regional
  • -1 Midwest Regional
  • -1 Waterloo Regional

Don't just ask how likely it is. Provide some information about why you want to attend that particular regional, with details like travel time/distance restrictions and conflicts with other weeks' events. That'll give the regional planning committee some information to work with when prioritizing the waitlisted teams.

One trick you might use immediately is to look at how many teams attended last year and compare it to the number of teams currently registered. That can give you an indication of how many "reserved" slots the regional has.

Do you have any idea who the 9 teams that were wrongfully registered for Oregon are?

I received an email from the Oregon RD saying that our ability to register was a mistake. We're waiting to hear from New Hampshire about the next step, but she didn't seem aware that the problem extended beyond just us.

Hi I have a question regarding rookie team registration.

I just registered a rookie team and we're wait listed at Silicon Valley. I want to register/get on the wait list for the Sacramento Regional, but the Add event option does not come up and I know second event registration time has come.

Anything I can do?

Call HQ. They are super helpful and will work it out. I would also expect you will hear from the regional director. It makes no sense having a rookie team that has nowhere to play.

Take John's suggestion.

Theres often "reserved" spots that are set aside at each regional specifically for rookie teams to be able to compete.

I looked and the bad news is that the other 8 are lawfully registered rookie teams. They appeared gradually after Oregon went to waitlisted on October 5.
It looks like Oregon can accommodate 2 more teams. The downside is that they may not be out of rookies yet.

Call FIRST and straighten it out with them.
They are there to help.
