Kinect drivers for VM support

The current Kinect SDK does not work in a virtual machine, due to lack of device drivers. It's a feature on the wishlist. Does anyone have insight into whether we'll see a new SDK soon? We're planning to use a standard VM for development.

Re: Kinect drivers for VM support

You don't mention what sort of VM.

I have successfully used the Kinect SDK with BootCamp. I also use the BootCamp image with Parallels -- my VM product. I can also confirm that the existing SDK will return an error during initialization and does not work under the VM. I do not know if that situation will improve, but it usually doesn't hurt to ask, ... say on the MS Research forum.

From what I hear support for running under VMs will not arrive in time for this season. Wish I could say otherwise but that's the way it is sometimes with engineering priorities against resources.
