Solenoid help

We are trying to use Solenoid Valve VUVG-L10-B52-T-M7-1P3 by supplying it power from our 12V battery and it does not work as intended although it does receive signals from the CRIO and lights up. The data sheet says it requries 24V although they gave this to us in our kit of parts, why would they do that if it couldnt be used with 12V of power? Thanks for the help!

Re: Solenoid help

If you supply 24 volts from the Power Distribution Board to the solenoid module, you will find that your valve will work just fine.

Re: Solenoid help

The solenoid valve isn't meant to be powered with 12VDC straight from the PDB; instead, as shown on the alternate power diagram on the FIRST website, the 24VDC is supposed to be supplied from the Crio solenoid output module.
This is achieved by also hooking up the PDB boost converter that hooks up to the main supply on the Crio to the solenoid module; this module then sends the 24VDC power to the solenoid as governed by your code.

Re: Solenoid help

the only 24V we see is from the CRIO into the board can we branch off of this safely?

Teams may power one Solenoid Breakout Board from the 24Vdc regulated supply on the Power Distribution Board that is also used to power the cRIO.

Power the 24V solenoid from the Solenoid Breakout Board.

Power the 24V solenoid from the Solenoid Breakout Board.

To elaborate, the Solenoid Breakout Board is the module that normally went in the 8th slot on the 8-slot Crio. The PD board connects the 24V to that, and then standard 2/3-wire PWM cables connect out of this to the solenoid to actuate it.
