[FF]: 2012 Season Long Waiver Thread
 

This thread is to deal with the waiver claims and all other things that have to do with waivers.

Quick overview: When teams become available for some reason after an event's draft, they go onto the waiver list. For between 48 hours and a week, the teams are available for claiming. At set times (likely Monday afternoons), the teams on waiver are awarded to players that have put in claims. You can make as many claims as you like, but as soon as one is awarded, you go to the bottom of the list. There can be a lot of potential points in this side of FF, so it is not to your advantage to totally overlook it.

When making a claim: You need to identify the team you want, the team you're giving up, and the event and tier. If you're making multiple claims, prioritize them. (If you're doing a multi-team claim at one event, prioritize the teams to drop.) You can post in this thread or PM me; if you PM me your claims, I may post that you have made a claim, but not what teams you claimed.

Waiver schedule: Any team announced as available by a given Friday midnight will be given out the next Monday after 5 PM EST. If a team doesn't make it in by that time, it will go in the following waiver period.

Also, if an FF team drops a robotics team, does that robotics team then go on waivers or straight to "free agency"?

It depends on timing. Right after the draft, up until a "reasonable time" (typically midnight or so), dropped teams go to free agency; after that, teams go to waivers. If you notice a team adding at an event after the draft, they go to waiver, effective when their addition is announced. If a FF team drops out entirely, all teams from that FF team go straight to waivers without free agency--this cuts down on the mad scramble to pick up teams. If a team doesn't get claimed in waivers, they go to free agency.

Something that may be helpful later: "Missing team priority" is a priority called when a FF team is missing a team in a draft due to that team dropping out. It allows that team to grab any team, free agent or waiver, without needing to go through waiver. (If the team chosen is on waiver, the FF team drops to the bottom of the priority list.)

Fifth, you may be interested in how the teams were awarded. I simply looked at whoever had the highest priority that submitted a claim, awarded their first claim, moved that player to the bottom of the priority list, and eliminated competing claims (which obviously couldn't be awarded). Then I repeated that until I ran out of claims.

Yep, 3378 is no longer listed as attending Israel. So, this claim is given the "Missing Team" priority (priority level zero).

What that means is that I take care of it immediately, 4338 is off the table, and 1676 is at the bottom of the priority list, which now reads as follows:

On another note, if Awesome posts up their #1 priority pick, I can go through about 3 -4 teams and say whether or not they're going to be claimed (saving some people some time in terms of making waiver lists).

I can essentially guarantee you that, unless someone else brings a new team to the board at number one (not saying who! :ahh: ), 2415 will be my first priority. The top 4 i have in orange will still be my rough top 4 with a few changes.

Also, i have a question. Disregarding waiver orders, 1477 at bayou is my second pick. However, with regard to waiver order, i know that currently, akash would be getting them since im getting what he has at number one. Does it hurt me to put 1477 at #2 anyways, or will it simply make my #3 my new #2?

Placing a team that looks like it will be picked will not affect any other team.

Here's how I go through wavier claims: I have a spreadsheet showing the claim lists in order of priority. First priority with a claim gets the first claim on their priority list. That team is then removed from all the lists, the claimant goes to the bottom of the priority list, and the claim is put off to one side in a list. Wash, rinse, repeat. So if 1477 is your #2 and is claimed, your #3 becomes your #2 (or #1, if your #1 has already happened).

Edit: As it stands right now, claiming 2415, 2122, or 1477 is not going to get them (unless you're in the top 3)--they're the current first 3 #1 claims. Unless someone changes their waiver order (like that's going to happen).

Whoa there! I just noticed something...

3378 is not a team that 1676 has (3774 is the team that got its number twice-confused--first as 3374, then as 3378). Missing team priority is rescinded, and 4338 is back on the available list. 1676 goes back to 2nd from the bottom of the priority list--but may maintain the claim of 4338 for 3774 if desired.

But, folks, remember: If you have a missing team in an event, you have missing team priority in that event until you fill that hole, and the above is how it works.

A Note about Missing Team Priority: If you get a PM or post from me that says that one of your teams is missing (or you discover this fact on your own), you can claim any team, on waivers or not, without regard for the priority list--you automatically have priority. (Though if the team you claim is on waivers, you do go to the bottom of the priority list.) Sometime in January or February, I'll probably go through and do a more exhaustive present/not present check of teams.

This week's waiver is likely to get entertaining; every event has had at least one team add. To speed up the process of entering new teams, I'm going to make a couple of changes to the procedure.

1) If you would like to opt out of waivers altogether, drop me a PM. If you make a claim after opting out, I will respect your waiver priority, but take note of the next change:

2) If the first person on the list (who hasn't opted out) makes a claim, I will run as many claims as I can immediately, starting 48 hours after a posting. Teams made available this way will have their deadline on the next waiver.

3) Waivers will be posted 2x per week until the event lists have been completely gone through for missing/added teams. Deadlines Wednesday and Saturday at midnight EST. After the last event list has been checked, back to one/week or short week.

Yep. You only lose position if the team you take is on waiver. Which is why Untouchables, Falcon, and Circuitrunners went straight to the bottom of the priority list--but the teams taken were worth it, IMO.


Now would probably be a good time to say that next week's waivers will be packed with good teams. A Hyper Frog Force of HOT Martians will bring More Martians and be split between 3 events. (Those that read this correctly will start planning accordingly... And no, that's not all the good teams.) I'm currently debating whether or not to add a couple more events into those waivers, but right now I'm leaning towards not.

Shoelace picks up 234 in Smokey Mountains, 67 in Northville 2, 494 in Niles 2, and 868 in Wisconsin.
CircuitRunners were AWARDED 1712 (Lenape 2) and 2771 (Niles 2). However, they will need to find a correct team to drop in both events.
Nemesis is AWARDED 67 in Northville 1 (and will need to give a team up that he has). Nemesis also picks up 503 and 494 in Niles 2, 768 in Washington, DC, 1248 in Buckeye, and 1153 in Boston.
Falcon picks up 131 and 69 in Boston, 503 and 2771 in Niles 1, and 4128 and 1712 in Lenape 1.

Good try, but not good enough. Shoelace is several hours ahead, and had missing team priority in Troy.

Arizona and Midwest are both on pages after the first one.

CircuitRunners opted to use missing team priority in Troy to take 66. They are also taking 3369 in Dallas East and 3501 in Central Valley using the missing team priority; their North Carolina replacement (3346) is not on waiver and so does not affect the waivers.


Due to the volume of missing team replacements, it's probably best to repost the waiver list, with teams removed:

I think the issue is that the forum defaults to showing only threads with posts in the last month, which excludes many of the draft threads. You can change it on the bottom left of the forum page.

Perhaps some time in the past 7 years you changed the setting universally (User CP=>Edit Options=>Thread Display Options=>Default Thread Age Cut Off). Anyway, back to FF.

All right, one or maybe two more waivers should do the trick. First, though, just about everyone got all their picks this week.

Dodar, using first priority, takes 2338 in Queen City.
Nemesis goes with home-regional advantage, taking 2500 and 3038 in 10K Lakes and 522 in Long Island.
The CircuitRunners pick up 2345 in Oklahoma and 3038 in Queen City with a close-to-the-deadline claim.
And Falcon ditches the numbers game to go with gut, taking 1458 in Silicon Valley, 1270 in Queen City, and 401 in North Carolina.

This means that the following teams are on waiver:

Waivers are officially closed to new teams. All teams adding into events are now to be considered free agents, open to whoever wants them.
