Seems legit.

Anyone notice the title of the post? "Flash Update" sounds like it's a small but quick update, like it's not the real thing to come. Maybe it mean's there's another update coming within the next 24 hours, or just for the heck of it, it could mean our robots have to do something with flash, such as weird lighting, need to go really fast like the superhero the flash, or maybe something more subtle, like "No flash photography at events".

Doubt it's an actual hint, but the name is interesting at least.

Make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player. The Manual will contain a 3-D, interactive game field.

On a side-note, that would be totally awesome. A 3 dimensional, interactive game field within the manual? Sheer awesomeness! I want.

Confirmed only one game hint this year.

"And you will have everything you need for the 2012 FRC Kickoff"

A link to the first game hint is posted in the pdf. It's a little late for game hints, but yeah. that's about it.

You don't need a hint, so that's just a question of semantics.

And they label it hint #1, which implies a hint # 2, does it not?

QED.

nope. not at all.

it is like the classic scheme of letting 3 animals tagged #1, #3, and #4 loose in a town and then everybody spends the rest of the day looking for the non-existent #2.

so no, being labeled #1 doesn't necessarily imply other hints to come.

as for flash, I wonder if maybe animations this year may be submitted as a flash movie?

Wait a minute.. Flash.. The amazing number of LED lights from the first hint.. It's not a water game.. It's a flying game. The flashes are from runway lights we have to land between :D

Or relate to something about lights. Different lighting, more lighting, turning lights on/off, there's a ton of possibilities, and we won't know for sure until kickoff, or until they release another game hint, and we all unanimously agree on something, and then show up to kickoff to find something completely different. :) Either way, we'll find out in less than 3 days.

So have we concluded that the second hint is, indeed, "Flash Update"?

EDIT: Quotes added for clarity.

This game will have a dark grey and red window that pops up with an 'Install' button the robots must press. Rookie teams may opt for the "Remind me later" path of game play. I heard this season is being sponsored by Adobe.

^ Teams can use different operating systems on their drivers stations but each has its distinct flaws. Windows users have to take a 5 second penalty every 30seconds, OSX users have to play a more simplified game with lower scoring... and Linux users wont even pass inspection

iPhones won't even work in the venues.

Android phones get a 70 point bonus, and free whatever dessert corresponds to the version of Android you're using for your entire team. :D

Just kidding. Every year someone asks if the encryption key is out.
