It's too bad that there aren't minibots this year. I think it's safe to say that they were very enjoyable to the spectators in Logomotion.

Does anyone have a link to the game animation? I missed the 2nd half of it as the webcast cut out on my end.

Re: 2012 Kickoff Discussion

I'm confused, so each team has 3 inbounders, right? One of them is playing Kinetimals while the others are doing nothing, but when teleop activates, does that inbounder run to their alley window, or is one of the other inbounders already there? Are the other 2 inbounders passing balls to the window?

Please elaborate.

http://youtu.be/A_3pKX-ch7k is the one I uploaded; there's probably better quality copies floating around at this point but that's workable.

So...anyone else thinking of just building a robot that just blocks the other teams hoops *except for the high hoop cause we can't reach.

Goin' over ya. That's a 18" hoop, 6" off the backboard, horizontal. You can't go more than 14" horizontally from your Frame Perimeter, and the Fender starts 38" from the wall. 18"+6"=24", +14" =3 8". You can't block the hoops from a shot coming in from above without getting on top of an 8.25" tall sloped Fender.

:D It's all about the math.--Mark Leon:D

When in the match are you asking? Take a look at rule [G32]. I don't see anything prohibiting a human player from trying... under the conditions of [G32], though, there's a time to try it.

Are there any rules that prohibit crossing the vertical boundaries of the fender?

Has anybody found what the material of the ramps in the actual game will be? The team drawings show to use plywood, but what will they be in the actual game?

I haven't found any. However, there is a rule governing extensions beyond the Frame Perimeter--Specifically, no more than 14 inches. The Fender is sloped on the top, and the short side is higher than any vertical surface that's been climbable in FIRST history (besides the bars, which have had little or no vertical surface).

Besides, given FIRST history, I would expect that as soon as a "climb on the Fender to defend the goals" strategy goes public, the next team update will specifically disallow it.

Can't grasp, grab, grapple, etc. But if you can reach them - with only a 14" extension and considering the Fender - then you could dunk.

How heigh is the bump in the middle of the field? my team seems it would be easier just to jack up the robot and go over the bumps instead of figuring out an idea to balance across that board.

Read 2.2.5 (yes, you have to read even the obscure parts of the manuals)

So the beam in the middle is only 4 inches tall, so if you robot's wheels are above 8 inches tall, you could easily go over the bump, instead of building a contraption to lower the balance:cool:

Or you could have a lot of smaller wheels, or some method of raising and lowering your wheels

The bump in the middle is not going to be a factor if the base of your robot is over 4 inches. If the base in general, or any part of the robot for that matter (except the wheels) is above 4 inches, it can not physically touch the bump. If a robot is over the bump, and the base is 5 in. then there will be an inch of space between the bot and the bump.

I have a question about the ruling in the rule G05. The rule states "Each bridge will be preset with two Basketballs. Basketballs allotted to Robots that are not used, will be present on the Coopertition Bridge." What is considered not "used"? Could hoarding 2 balls to an alliance member after they have shot their two balls be considered using the balls? or is a robot only allowed to use 2 balls during auton?

I interpret "used" to mean "contained in the robot before the game starts".

The English in the sentence you quoted from the rules is mushy though. Is it the Basketballs that are not used, or the Robots that are not used?
