FRC 2012 Kit of Parts and Field

It's ready!! You can now go to www.autodesk.com/first and download the Kit of Parts, including the FRC 2012 Competition field.

Let me know if you have questions on opening the files or if there are any parts in your kit that are not available as Inventor models.

Is there any way we can get a STEP file of the field?

Re: FRC 2012 Kit of Parts and Field

Ty,

As per my note on the SW forum, it will be posted in 30 minutes. In the meantime I am sending you the file. Look out for a YouSendIt message.

Frustration with the autodesk supplied kit of parts.

i've downloaded the zipped files from autodesk, unzipped them, I can see assemblies when I preview assemblies within inventor. yet when I attempt to open the assembly file I recieve an error message indicating missing paths!

I teach this every day, I use inventor every day, the path seems correct, and I have the appropriate project file set up.. yet I cannot open assembly files from the downloaded files thanks to unresolved links??

We are having that same issue.

Missing wheel assembly and it's parts

Hi i have found that the drive base kit is missing the entire assembly for the wheel and the parts for that assembly is missing from the source file on the AUTO DESK site. Can anyone report this so we can retrieve those files?

Glad I am not the only one with this issue..

Hey-

If anybody still needs the HiGrip FIRST Wheel CAD, you can get it, as a STEP file, from AndyMark here. To do so, go under "Files and Documents," then download the "6" HiGrip Wheel CAD File (.stp) (right click, save as)". Once that has been done, Autodesk Inventor can open the file, then resave it in the proper format. It won't be the right material/color, but it is the right shape.

Re: FRC 2012 Kit of Parts and Field

When I try to open an assembly/part I get the message "Error in reading RSe stream". I can open the STP file of the Field though.

Re: FRC 2012 Kit of Parts and Field

Sounds like you are using Autodesk Inventor 2011. The 2012 KOP files cannot be opened in 2011.

Re: FRC 2012 Kit of Parts and Field

I have checked and reposted the Drive Base Kit on the Kit of Parts.

Also, the wheel is posted as an Autodesk Inventor assembly file under Drive Train.

Let me know ASAP if you have any issues and I can resolve them for you.

Re: FRC 2012 Kit of Parts and Field

Really, Inventor 2012 only?
My school decided not to upgrade, and everyone is still on Inventor 2011

What are our options?
Just use 2011 KoP?
Open in 2012 and save as something (STEP files?)

Re: FRC 2012 Kit of Parts and Field

Our school is licensed for Inventor 2010 only. We're unauthorized to install the 2012 version. The kit of parts for this season requires 2012 to open the parts. Can you recommend a way we can get versions of the drawings that will work with our version of the software?

inventor_phild 14-01-2012 13:43

Re: FRC 2012 Kit of Parts and Field

The Kit Of Parts from 2010 is still available on the Education website. It will resolve most of the needs you have for robot parts. In addition, companies such as AndyMark and VEX are very good at posting STEP files of their parts which can be opened in 2010.

Try this and let me know what, if any major parts you are missing.

Re: FRC 2012 Kit of Parts and Field

Is there anyway that you can edit the parts after you import them into autodesk?

inventor_phild 17-01-2012 14:06

Re: FRC 2012 Kit of Parts and Field

Yes. Open the file and in the browser, find the Body entry. Right-click and select Edit Solid. The options are limited compared to a native Inventor part, but it may be enough for what you want.

Let me know how you get on and we can work on one part to let you see the work flow.

Yes, you can. For future reference, what parts do you need and should I include them in future KOP's?

I didn't see it when I downloaded the kit a couple of day ago, but how about the CRIO II now that all the rookie teams and a lot of vets are using it.

Jacob,

The CRIO part number CTF040V8 is located in the Control Systems section of the Kit of Parts. The Inventor part number is Control System_Sauro_CTF040V8.iam

If you have problems locating it, or if you are referring to another part, please let me know and I will resolve the issue for you.

Jacob,

I just realized that you are referring to a different part from cRio. Let me check again and I will update by tomorrow morning.

Jacob,

I was looking at the wrong part number, it should be Control System_NI_cRIO-FRC-II.ipt. It is located in the Control System area.

The modules 9201, 9403, and 9472 are also located in the Control Systems area.

so.. essentially any team thats not up to the latest and greatest version of autodesk is automatically at a disadvantage..

The Autodesk KOP is available in 2012, 2011, and 2010 format, so any team should be in good shape for the majority of the parts.

If a new part is added for 2012 (and there are), then the work flow is as follows:

1. Open the new part in 2012 (it is available free to all FIRST teams) and save as a STEP file. You can now import into 2011 and older.
2. If you are stuck I can help you with some of the major new parts.
3. Some of the new parts are available on vendor websites as STEP files. Check AndyMark and others.

At Autodesk we are aware that some teams cannot update their software each year and hopefully my response will assure you are not at any disadvantage. Please contact me directly if you have any concerns.
