Intake Size
I just quickly did this back of napkin calculation:

and 2. How are you going to get a decent intake in just 12 inches. (The wide orientation at 22" is leaps and bounds better, if not spectacularly large). |
Re: Intake Size
I believe your calculations are correct, however I would like to remind you of one thing: you can only hold control 3 balls at a time. With a smaller intake, you would ensure that you obtain one ball at a time, thus reducing the risk of getting penalties. That was one of the reasons my team decided to go long oriented.

Re: Intake Size
But doesn't the bumper width count?
(28+ 2* ~4) -16 = 20 |

Also, bumpers are 3" thick, not 4". |

I could assume either the bumpers being 8in. in length or from the frame perimeter vertex moving inward. If its just 8 in. of bumper length in the front, that's a huge difference from 12 in. opening to 18 in. |
Re: Intake Size
You mean 12 to 20, right?
It is (with 98% certainty) 8" of bumper on each side, which can be divided into 4" on the left and 4" on the right. |

Re: Intake Size
If they allowed you to extend a mechanism outside your robot, say, up to 14", you could partially circumvent this problem... :D

Does this mean that octagonal robots with sides less than 8" and circular robots are illegal this year? |
