Re: How many days do your programmers get with a fully built robot before stop build

A lot of teams do a second practice robot. Our team hasn't done one yet, but we want to this year. Is there any advice you'd give to a lower-budget team on doing this?

Re: [FRC BLOG] Bride of 2017 Updates

For scientists, I would have loved to see Mendeleev as a division name. I think it'd be really cool as he did a lot to help modern chemistry evolve (especially his Table of the Elements).

Re: Build season week 1

Our team spends an all-day meeting for kickoff, rules discussion (understanding them) and then get to thinking about how we want to attack the game. We discuss our preferred strategy first, so we...

Re: Best in your State/Region

To CT, I'd add 230 for Culture awards. Overall NE, don't forget about 125.

Re: Project Management Platforms

Our team used Project Libre this year. It let us create tasks, subtasks, etc. and set deadlines for those, as well as assign people to each task. The only downside I see to this program is that it's...

Re: Rumors ANYONE?

In all seriousness, if they continue with theming, a cool theme would be futuristic. Lunacy repeat, anyone?!

Re: [FRC BLOG] Bride of 2017 Updates

Given that the division names do not affect the competition itself in any noticable way, I don't really care what division names they chose. I just don't see how it really matters.

Next year's game will be called Stronghold Rush. Our team is already planning:

Re: How many days do your programmers get with a fully built robot before stop build

This year, our programmers had much more time than previous years. The programmers received the robot Thur/Fri before bag & tag. Then, we attended Suffield Shakedown on Sat, and Mon/Tue were a little...

Re: Video Review Needs to Happen Now

Fair enough. All I'm saying is that benefits/costs should be weighed carefully. If it takes up little extra time and allows better calls, I'm all for it.

Re: Video Review Needs to Happen Now

I definitly agree with you both. My question is whether this (however amount) increase in inspiration is worth the longer waits, and possible teams leaving to prior awards, which, in my mind,...

Re: Video Review Needs to Happen Now

I think that one of the biggest things we always need to keep in mind is the goal of FIRST and FRC. What are we really trying to achieve? Inspiration.

The next question we have to ask is "Is it...

Re: Video Review Needs to Happen Now

Nothing's holding off-seasons from experimenting with this. The real problem lies with real competitions, where we should be wary in implementing something that can make them even longer without...

NO. If that happens, I'm moving to Canada (Ontario specifically).

Re: Video Review Needs to Happen Now

Again, as a theoretical - no hard data here - but there are easier ways than cameras. Requiring each robot to carry a small sensor packet that can tell where the robot is at any point in time would...

Re: Rumors ANYONE?

Based on last year's game having more water than 2015 (moat vs. nothing), I can safely predict that extrapolating onwards, 2017 will have puddles, and 2018 will be held in a pool.

Re: Math Quiz 9

If I may,

My approach would be to take the top semicircle (equation y=sqrt(1-x^2)) and find the average value of those vertical segments by integrating from -1 to 1 and dividing the area by the...

Re: Video Review Needs to Happen Now

Just as a design thing (not really related, but I'm interested), it'd probably be easier to put a location sensor within each bolder. Location can be accelerometer/gyro combo with a tiny controller....

Re: paper: Einstein History

As an update, I'm uploading another version that goes back all the way to 1992. Keep in mind that TBA only had W/F or Winner for most of these.

Re: Districts in Israel 2017 Announced

Oh gosh, I got the map completely mixed up in my mind. For some reason, I remembered it as east/west split in the US.

Re: Districts in Israel 2017 Announced

This is the second district going to South Champs (after PNW), right? Should make the field there a little bit more competitive, which is another benefit.

Re: 2016/2017 #FIRSTParody Song Competition

I'm personally against Chairman's videos during competition/breaks because they require attention (you can't just kinda sorta listen to it with one ear). However, robot reveal videos would be awesome...
