Re: 2016/2017 #FIRSTParody Song Competition

I think I must have lucked out at my events, because they were good. Going through the playlist now, half of them are, er, not so masterful.

Re: paper: Einstein History

Hey, so I just updated the spreadsheet a little, to make it more formula-based, so its easier to add next year's teams on Einstein (gonna have to think about how we're gonna stretch that 2 Einstein...

Re: Has anyone ever gotten a Penalty for T6

What works for me to definetly avoid these is to substitute those swears for words/phrases like "gosh golly gee" and "gosh darn it." I've used those so much now, they're kinda a part of my general...

Re: All local regionals the same weekend?

Just an idea, but a typical problem with large, spread-out states as districts is the ability to travel to two events, and also possibly a DCMP. Could we try out 1-play districts (vs. the 2-play...

Re: Themes for FRC games

I think that the theme was useful in ways other than for us (the students and mentors). While most of us didn't really care about the theme and got down to business building and making a robot work,...

Re: What is your favorite part of the FIRST experience?

My favorite part is seeing the hard work our entire team puts in, from January through competition, realized on the field. I think that's the moment that really inspires me: when we work on something...

Re: Moving Championships back

I like this, but (emphasis on the but), for me if we put it after AP exams, then we have to also start dodging final exams, which start for some schools immediately after that, and for other school...

Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #631

The last-minute bag-and-tag day attempts to get the robot under weight limits are getting ridiculous.

Re: What sensors do your teams use

Our robot this year had the following sensors:

2 Optical Encoders for our Drivetrain*
2 Magnetic Encoders for our flywheel shooter
Potentiometer for our actuating wedges
Gyro
2 Cameras**

*In...

Re: pic: Caption Contest?

AndyMark is proud to announce that we will now be offering banana same-day shipping during build season for those food-deprived students on your team.

Re: How many off season events?

4557 attended two offseasons and we're planning to do one more in the fall.

Battlecry@WPI 17 - May
Where is Wolcott Invitational - June
Bash at the Beach - September/October

I personally also...

Re: Discussion on All-Girl events

I wanted to add one last insight - maybe something that could help.

I myself am part of an all-boys team (we're from an all-boys school), and that forces our students to develop interests in all...

Re: CD's Unofficial Caption Contest #630

This is why we learn the Cotton-Eyed Joe during build season, not at competition.

Re: Robot Wars 2016

Seems to follow a lot of the same guidelines as BattleBots. Is this a spinoff?

Regardless, this is pretty fun to watch.

EDIT: It seems like many of the robots are concentrated on either being...

Re: Inspirational teams

For me, the team that has most significantly inspired is 195. Being in our area, they've helped our team grow, and also showed that CT pride with their Einstein appearance this year.

The reason I don't think it matters is that let's say you were to take one end point of any line very very very close to the edge. If you keep pushing it infinetly closer, it's...

Re: Math Quiz 9

I ran the Monte Carlo thing in a python script and the answers, each run with 1,000,000 trials, were all around 0.333. I'm gonna keep thinking, though, how to get an exact answer.

EDIT: I found...

Re: Pneumatics uses

My favorite was 1124's climber this year. It was two giant cylinders that lifted the robot. If they started climbing before time was up, they could keep climbing after time was called.

Re: Math Quiz 9

Here's a script I wrote in order to try to solve this problem. My second attempt was to, for each line length find the area where the center of the line could be. This resulted, for line length 0 -->...
