Re: pic: Quick-Change Chassis 2

There are 2 threads discussing this gearbox/chassis concept. I described our wheels in the other thread: https://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152912 ...

Re: pic: Quick-Change Chassis 2

Yes, I assumed our pit crew chief was joking. He loves to build & repair stuff, but he knows broken bots don't win.

Worm gearboxes are not as "forgiving" as traditional spur gear drives, but we've...

Re: pic: Quick-Change Chassis 2

Worm gear efficiency is largely determined by the ratio. Yes, a high ratio (100:1) worm gear drive might be only 50% efficient, but at 10:1 they are 85-90%. Design World Article...

Re: pic: Quick-Change Chassis 2

Good points. Our pit crew chief complained that our 'bot was so reliable he didn't have anything to do between matches except change the battery & check the fasteners for tightness.

One other...

Re: pic: Quick-Change Motor Drive Module 1

Yes, Team 342 had a couple Nordex gearbox failures using 12" wheels. This adds tremendous stress to the gearbox housing during pushing & abrupt stops.

Team 3489 has used them for 3 years, with no...

Re: pic: Quick-Change Motor Drive Module 1

We inserted a 5/8" OD shaft then drilled & tapped a couple M4 holes into both the gearbox & shaft, using the existing roll pin hole as a pilot. Then installed a couple M4 screws. This seems to hold...

Re: pic: Quick-Change Motor Drive Module 1

Hmm.. It looks like a few different vendors are selling the same gearbox: Nordex (https://catalog.nordex.com/cc2742), SPD-SI (https://shop.sdp-si.com/catalog/?cid=p53) and Torque Transmission...

Re: pic: Quick-Change Motor Drive Module 1

Yes, you have a good point. We already have a number of these worm gearboxes with a 10:1 gear ratio. If that doesn't fit our strategy in 2017 we'll need to add a chain or belt drive to adjust the...

Re: pic: Quick-Change Chassis 2

If we use this concept, it will be for ease of assembly & quick repairs at the competition. Using nutserts and an electric screwdriver I think we could swap out a drive module in <1 minute.

We also...

Re: pic: Quick-Change Motor Drive Module 1

It's a Nordex GRX-A2-10 (10:1 speed reduction). Link (https://catalog.nordex.com/pc2743_26612)

We've had very good luck using them to drive 6" wheels, but our sister team (342) stripped one or two...

Re: SCRIW VI (South Carolina Robotics Invitational & Workshops 2016)

Does anyone know the results? I didn't get to see the final matches.

Also - Thank you to the SCRIW crew for hosting this event.

Re: SCRIW VI (South Carolina Robotics Invitational & Workshops 2016)

Hey Billfred,

You might want to update the SCRIW website. It look like the info is at least 2 years old, except for the home page.

Does anyone know if there's an alternate video streaming source, other than the one posted on http://www.myrtlebeachfirstrobotics.com?

It's blocked on my computer.
