Re: StrongHold Logo

Does anyone know where we can get the logo in high resolution?

Usually FIRST posts a high rez TIF, PNG and/or PostScript version of their game logo, but I can't find it this year.

Re: Solenoid Recommendations

Double check the rules. In past years they limited us to one solenoid valve per cylinder. If that's the case this year, you can use two smaller cylinders with one valve each, to get the maximum speed.

Re: Best place to get double solenoids?

Robochair brings up a good point. Many of the kids on our team though a double-acting cylinders require a double solenoid valves, when a single solenoid/spring return valve will work fine.

Re: Vacuum Pickup

We had good results in 2014 (https://youtu.be/tPNvIXTAd4s), but decided not to use vacuum because adapting a FIRST-legal motor to a small shop vac was beyond our resources at the time. But another...

Re: FIRST Choice round two!

Our team leader has been out sick for a few days.

Can anyone tell me if Bimba pneumatic cylinder or Gates timing belt vouchers are in the Virtual Kit of Parts this year?

It doesn't look like it:...

Re: Pneumatics or Mecanum

Umm... great discussion, but I think this technical category is intended for fluid power pneumatics: compressors, cylinders, valves, etc.

Re: Broaching Ends of Cylinders

Bimba and most other cylinder manufacturers offer hex mounting nuts. You could weld an adapter onto the nut then screw it onto the cylinder. Or use a taller nut with the same thread diameter/pitch.

Re: Maximum bore/stroke length for cylinders?

You could use smaller bore cylinders if you added powerful constant force springs (free from Vulcan Spring (http://info.vulcanspring.com/first-robotics-competition)).

For example, if you pre-loaded...

Re: Coil Over Shock Absorbers

Spring suspensions and pneumatic wheels will reduce impact, but cause bouncing. Which might be an issue, or might just be fun to watch :D

Shock absorbers dampen the bounce. Cars and most...

Re: Sally Door

Yes - I also noticed how flexible the Drawbridge was in Manchester. Plan on it curving forward about 30 degrees if you're pulling it down from the top.

I assume the wooden Drawbridges we build will...

What is the food situation? Will teams be able to pre-order lunch? Will there be food available for sale on the day of the event?

Re: SCRIW V (South Carolina Robotics Invitational & Workshops 2015)

Great news that things are still tentatively a "go". Dorchester II schools have been out of session for over a week, and that also meant no robotics meetings. But we're back on track today!

What is...

Live Video doesn't match Qual. Schedule?

Well this is odd. I'm watching the Archimedes streaming video, but none of the teams playing are listed in the Archimedes Qualification Schedule.

What gives?

Re: Cheap and Dirty Prototype

Good job getting a functional robot built so quickly!

I recommend adding a plastic slope to the human players station to get a realistic tote drop.
