Re: 2013 ACTUAL game hint!!!

It's frustrating to see those 2 blank pages! They should at least have a picture of Rick Astley in there.

Re: 2013 ACTUAL game hint!!!

Wayne = wane = "to decrease in size, extent, or degree"
Wade = weighed

Decrease weight?

Re: 2013 ACTUAL game hint!!!

I think you're on to something there. What about 4" DWV pipe for the game pieces? It's cheap & sturdy, and since it's designed to carry water, that could be the GDC's inside joke. It would be a...

Re: 2013 ACTUAL game hint!!!

I would expect a weight reduction if the size is reduced. 140 lbs. is a lot of weight to pick off the floor multiple times a day. There's a proper way to lift, but I'm sure we've all seen kids in a...

Re: 2013 ACTUAL game hint!!!

Another thing to ponder: here's the Seal of New Hampshire. Note the ship under construction. Water game! I know you're all groaning, but FIRST can simulate a water game without using water. They...

Re: 2013 ACTUAL game hint!!!

Seal's self-titled 1994 album did include his best selling song "Kiss from a Rose". FIRST tries to pick catchy phrases for their game titles. Another song on that album is Bring it On.

Re: 2013 ACTUAL game hint!!!

When I search for "a dinner missed" in quotes the first thing that pops up is this photo of fish (http://www.flickr.com/photos/81238501@N00/8073635501/).

It was taken in Drangsnes, Iceland by an...

Re: 2013 ACTUAL game hint!!!

Just for curiosity I rendered a 'bot at 79% of the 2012 size. The dimensions include the wheel widths.

Re: 2013 ACTUAL game hint!!!

FTC 'bots must fit within an 18" cube at game start, so their volume can be no greater than 5,832 cubic inches.

For FRC, if the "long" dimension is now 30" and you keep the same aspect ratios, the...

Re: 2013 ACTUAL game hint!!!

In the past have there been problems with the size & weight of the robots? They've grown over the years, when you add the bumper and battery weight. Maybe FIRST has serious concerns about safety and...

Re: 2008 Festo Solenoid

I'm not familiar with the 2008 valves but most solenoid valves need very little power (~1 Watt) because the solenoid itself is not shifting the valve spool. It opens a tiny port to let pilot pressure...

Team 3489's entry: http://youtu.be/SqiX5t_97qM

It's similar to the one we created last year, but that one was never judged because we made an error in the registration process. :(

So we updated it...

Re: 2013 Safety Animation

Usually the winning team finds out the same time as everyone else, but last year FIRST accidentally listed the winner in the kickoff agenda. :-)

Re: Animation Rendering

I brought the students mesh & map files home & rendered them on my 8-core Dell. They created 6 scenes, so I set up a batch file to render all 6 files, started it and went to bed. In the morning it...

That sounds great. There are so many creative students passionate about animation, it would be a shame to let this aspect of FIRST fade away.

There are a number of other teams and individuals also...

Re: No animation award in 2013! :'(

I think this is a good place to discuss this topic.

I hate to see the contest go. I hope another company or organization will step in to sponsor 3D animation. Probably too late for this year.:(

I'm involved in FRC, so I can't speak for FTC, but I've seen winning teams that designed their entire robot with 3D CAD, but I've seen other winning teams with robots designed with pencil & graph...
