Re: Pneumatic Pressure Gauges and Relief Valve?

Is your regulator properly? It sounds like you may have set it up backwards.

Re: HELP: Voltage Drop

I would say the most likely issue is using 6 pneumatic wheels without a drop center. That's a whole lot of scrub when you try to turn, and that will eat your battery like you wouldn't believe.

Re: New radio

Do you have your radio powered from the VRM? According to the user manual (http://www.ctr-electronics.com/VRM%20User's%20Guide.pdf), it should work all the way down to 5V input. If your powering it...

Re: Can we fill our wheels with water?

Note that in Ultimate Ascent, there was a similar blue box under R8 (which is the same as R9 this year) which listed hydraulic fluid, and was the basis for the ruling - the description is the...

Re: Can we fill our wheels with water?

Guys, this seems like a serious question, and a lot of these answers really aren't helping.

Look at the blue box under R9. The blue box provides "examples of items that will violate R9". In that...

Re: Bumpers

That's the difficult part. R21-C states:

So in cutting them, you have to end up with a round, petal, or hex cross section for the pool noodles. Cutting them in half, or square, etc would not be...

Re: Bumpers

Keep in mind that pool noodles are not really a precision crafted part. One's that are sold as 2.5" may not actually be exactly 2.5" - I've seen variation of them up to 1/4". 3 1/4" diameter,...

Re: Boat Winch for Hanger?

We did this back in Break Away to climb. We got a normal manual boat winch, and outfitted it with a CIM motor through a Dewalt gearbox. Please keep in mind that if you get a powered boat winch, you...

Re: Charged system during inspection?

Sorry, let me quote the entire rule instead of just the part that was applicable here...

T18 makes specific exemption for the power on test. It also makes exemption in cases where it can be done...

Re: Charged system during inspection?

Please note T18:

So, start inspection with your pneumatics dumped. When the inspector looks at the frame perimeter, explain that the pneumatics holds arm in place, and your inspector will say "ok,...

Re: Question about frame perimeter and wheels

As does practically every other 6-wheel drive system used in FIRST. Drop center does not equal WCD.

Re: Question about frame perimeter and wheels

At least the times my team has done WCD, we've been able to do it with direct drive from the gearbox, eliminating the need for chains or belts. Then again, we're doing direct drive this year, but...

Re: Are these bumpers illegal?

I see two big legality issues in this picture (which isn't to say there aren't more that I don't see).

First, your bumpers are not supported on the ends- see R26. That means both ends of each...

Re: Legality of third party fans

That would be a good way to clean out the parts closets for a hundred teams or so! And if you build it, maybe you can get your local MC to ride it around during competition!

Re: Bumper Backing Question

There is no defined minimum amount of contact with the frame to satisfy the "backed" rule. Inspectors are really looking for something that can withstand rigorous gameplay, and this includes robots...

Re: We'd like an expert's opinion on our current bumper setup.

See the blue box below R28, "There is no prohibition against splitting Team numbers onto different sections of BUMPER." That's all they did here - split it into 36-66. The slight ambiguity you...

Re: We'd like an expert's opinion on our current bumper setup.

Assuming they meet the 8" rule, are contained fully within the bumper zone, are rigidly mounted to the frame perimeter, and are backed by the structure of the robot in the appropriate placed, they...

Re: Question about frame perimeter and wheels

Any part of your robot, including the wheels, affects the frame perimeter.. If your frame itself is 30x30, and your wheels stick out more, then you are too big.. Also keep in mind that the frame...

Re: Pneumatic Regulators from Automation Direct

Take a look at the blue box under R82 - the recommended primary regulators haven't changed from previous years. They are capable of more than 60 PSI, but have to be set to 60 PSI or lower. From...

Re: Purpose of off-board Vent Plug?

Are we looking at the same picture? Figured 4-16 and 4-17 have the vent valve located on a T, with the other sides going to the compressor and across to the robot. It does vent to atmosphere.

Re: Legality of third party fans

Having built a few computers in my day, I know that not all fans are created equal. There are some out there that get much more airflow than others, despite being the same size. So the rule does...
