Go to Post Well I have to admit, most of the people on our team are geeks. I think that it's a title of honor considering it might as well be "boss" or "head supervisor" or something along those lines. - Cyberguy34000 [more]

Re: [FRC Blog] Stop Build Day Survey Results

Out of curiosity, what makes you think there's motion on the overall attitude towards stop-build? I won't claim to know either way, but we had shipping to regionals through 2011, I think, with a...

Re: Eliminating "Start Build Day"

Eric - I had thought about moving kickoff all the way up to Champs... But I don't like it for four reasons.

First, you have that impulse for graduating seniors to start the robot and then go to...

Re: Eliminating "Start Build Day"

I think kickoff is at a good time - I don't want it prior to the end of year holidays - that period is a guaranteed 1-2 weeks off school for students, and the week or two prior to that everyone is...

Re: Discussion: Release Team Field Drawings Early

Undoubtedly, having field elements on hand while prototyping, building, and testing leads to improvements in team robots. And yes, lower resource teams typically build fewer/no field elements.

But...

Re: Collapsible or Portable Workbench

Our battery cart was strong enough for this (we upgraded to a new one last year, but kept the same concept).

Re: No MN Events?

High Tech Kids runs FLL here in MN, their website has some dates and locations listed:
http://www.hightechkids.org/fll-tournament-schedule

I don't know why those aren't on the FIRST website, though.

Re: Registration 2017

Ok, I've rewritten this like 5 times, I keep going back and forth.

The first one could be a useful comparison next year with the new preference system Frank has talked about in the blog - does the...

Re: Suggestions for a team trailer?

It's definitely possible to tow a team trailer with a minivan - if the trailer isn't too big. I've seen team trailers that are huge, and ones that aren't.

The real question is what are your...

Re: 2017 Minnesota Regionals

There were a lot of spots held back in the MN events this year. When you look at MN's growth rate, we'll probably be in the neighborhood of ~220 teams this year, with open capacity at our own...

Re: Registration 2017

He gets it from "Rookie year: 2002". I believe he's been actively collecting this data and saving it locally, not relying on an outside resource (Like FIRST) to provide the historical information.

Re: Large Corporate Sponsorships?

First, you have to identify your target company(s)... who do you want to sponsor you? This can be tricky - it's tempting to go with a "shotgun" approach, but that generally means you spend less time...

Re: Registration 2017

I always love seeing those graphs, Mark... But with registration starting 2 weeks later this year because of the server issues, should we still show them all starting at the same time? My thinking...

Re: FIRST Server Issues

We got in for our regional, and got a confirmation email and everything... then went in for kickoff, and got error'd out. So maybe the site lasted a minute or two longer than last time?

Re: Sponsor can we morally seek sponsorship from a brewery

Ignoring the affects of alcohol for a minute, there is so much that you can use with a brewer to "sell" it to your school, parents, and other stakeholders. Bulk manufacturing technology, some...

Re: [FRC Blog] FIRST Robotics Competition Registration Update

In such a system, I would hope you would be able to chose a "replacement" regional for your first choice before anyone else gets to choose a second regional. I would hope that leaves enough room...

Re: [FRC Blog] FIRST Robotics Competition Registration Update

I think determining advantage from a team's preference order is more difficult than that. For example, I know plenty of teams here in the Twin Cities that could put down North Star and 10,000 Lakes...

Re: [FRC Blog] FIRST Robotics Competition Registration Update

That's easily solvable by determining which event is a team's "local" regional ahead of time. The simplest way would be to determine which event is closest to each team and call that local. If, at...
