Re: Moving Championships back

We promote robotics as a "winter sport", and stretch that definition a little by running all the way to the end of April. Students get involved with other things - tennis, soccer, golf, baseball, to...

Re: (Seemingly) Irrational alliance selection decisions?

I wouldn't say any alliance selection decisions are irrational. Some are unprepared, some are based on faulty data, and some are based on different value propositions.

Perhaps the biggest thing to...

Re: goto first new post broken with Chrome on Windows?

Yeah, I've seen the Microsoft data on that also. It's honestly not an issue for my Windows 10 machine, though - I've probably only used it for about 3 hours unplugged, cumulative... and that during...

Re: Districts vs. Traditional Debate 8/16 830pm EST

In 2016, 6 regionals were held in week 6. This included 348 teams in total*.

For districts, there were 3 DCMP in week 6, and 5 in week 7. With 451 teams attending, representing 1169...

goto first new post broken with Chrome on Windows?

So, I'm having a problem this week with the "goto first new post" links on the recent activity list in the portal. When I click on them, they all take me to the most recent post as of Wednesday...

Re: Problem with 254's library

Well, the code was written against the 2015 API, and you probably have the 2016 API loaded. There are compatibility issues when using different versions of the API!

A little googling turned up a...

Re: Vision co-processor Location

As I haven't seen anyone else mention it, check out R93 in the 2016 rulebook:

That one rule makes putting something like this on the driver station much more difficult. The ethernet from the...

Re: [FRC Blog] FRC Events Being Posted and AMAA on FUN

Perhaps the biggest thing that's missing in the scheduling discussion is that FIRST often doesn't have many options when it comes to scheduling. They sign contracts with venues each year, for the...

Re: Discussion on All-Girl events

I have to strongly question any study along those lines - With our current culture, it has to be practically impossible to control for upbringing differences between males and females. How can you...

Re: Inter-District Play for 2017

It's a little surprising that only 11 teams participated in inter-district play. Is that due more to availability than interest from teams?

Re: [FRC Blog] FRC Events Being Posted and AMAA on FUN

Where did you find their schedule posted for this facility? I've done some searching, and the closest I can find is their general event calendar (http://events.rpi.edu/cal/main/showMain.rdo), which...

Re: FRC Team Bullying

As great as FRC is, we still have our fair share of jerks (I really want to use a stronger term here), just like any other large organization. Dealing with them can be really tough, and when needed...

Re: [FRC Blog] FRC Events Being Posted and AMAA on FUN

"Completely invented"? By whom? Is it at all possible that venue availability played a large role in when these events happen? You talk as though you know the planners on the FRC side (RD's and...

Re: California District Proposal, Rev 2

The Duluth regionals have used trailer-based machine shops, from a couple of different sponsors.

Minneapolis uses an off-site machine shop at the U.

Re: Transitioning to Mentor in College

This part of your response made me stop to think a bit... It's 100% correct for a young mentor fresh out of being a team member. Being a mentor is a different role, and that affects your interaction...

If you want to make it more challenging, require a 2-level boat and require some of the pennies (1/3?) be placed on the second level above the water line. Placing weight up high like that will...

Re: POLL: Friday-Sunday events vs Thursday-Saturday events

I could go either way. Having to take one less day off work per event would be nice. But on the other hand, some of those events leave me so exhausted that I need Sunday just to recover.

I wouldn't have a problem with it either, given the way the rules are currently written.

Re: Discussion on All-Girl events

While I agree a large part of the battle is getting more female FRC students (specifically, more of them involved with build, as they seem to dominate some of the other areas of many, if not most,...
