Re: pic: Quick-Change Chassis 2

True, which is why I said "as low as", but even at the high-end of that efficiency curve, at 90% efficiency you still have a less efficient drive system than virtually any other machine on the field,...

Re: pic: Quick-Change Chassis 2

This point I will grant you, however I would think you would want to consider using bevel gears instead of worm gears. While back-drive resistance is nice, worm-gear efficiency can be as low as 50%,...

Re: pic: Quick-Change Chassis 2

I guess I'm curious as to what scenario would require a complete removal of a drive module like this in less than 1 minutes.

Changing out wheels could certainly be done more quickly than removing...

What is your goal with this? Flexibility or maintainability?

Re: Robot in 3 Days 2017

Debates aside, I do hope Ri3D makes it easier to find the streams and YouTube videos from the various teams this year. The past few years you really had to go digging for content for some of the...

Re: Rivnut Tool

Not to get too off-topic, but as someone who had never even heard of Rivnuts before seeing this thread, I'm curious... What are the actual benefits of using a Rivnut? Most of the application examples...

Too many engineers on this thread, everyone has overlooked the most obvious and important question...

Is it comfortable?

Re: pic: 4143 differential swerve concept

Interesting design, one thought though:

Assuming FIRST keeps the same rules that they have the past few years, in all likelihood there will be a limit of 4-6 CIMs on a robot which would make this...

Re: Andymark 1.1 Compressor Data

Continuous = 100% duty cycle, at least in the case of the Thompson.

Re: paper: 4 CIM versus 6 CIM theoretical calculations

I'll second this, it certainly wouldn't be the first choice for motor configurations IMO. In general there's rarely a need to use more than 2 CIMs outside of the drive system anyways, so the number...

Re: Strength of Versaplanetary & PG-188

The only issue we ever ran into with a Versaplanetary was when we sheared the sun gear on a 10:1 stage of a 300:1 gearbox. In retrospect it was our fault for assembling it the way we did (we should...

Re: FRC Gearboxes, Drive Train and motor combination recommendation

Personally I prefer using Vex wheels on our drive system (https://www.chiefdelphi.com/media/photos/39365) due to the Versa pattern they come with (which allows us to conveniently mate them to VexPro...

Re: Versatile gearboxes for pre-season stocking up?

I've pretty much used VersaPlanetary gearboxes exclusively for robot mechanisms since they came out a few years back. Nothing to complain about, and the only failures we've had with them have been...

Re: 5010 T-Shirt Robot Update

I share the concerns about PVC, though this particular design looks like it could easily led itself to the addition of a "Shrapnel Shield" around the barrels using polycarbonate or some other...

Re: Powering two compressors with one PCM

Older default code (2014 and before) would have some basic examples, though it should be pretty easy to program yourself.

There should be a way to read the pressure sensors state from the PCM in...

Re: paper: 4 CIM versus 6 CIM theoretical calculations

I meant the first option 1 CIM + 1 MiniCIM on each gearbox. So if I'm reading right, a 1+1 config would be about 79% of the power of a standard 2 CIM setup? If so, not a bad option depending on the...

Re: paper: 4 CIM versus 6 CIM theoretical calculations

Out of curiosity, how would a 2CIM + 2 MiniCIM drive compare? I've often wondered if this was a practical weight saving option or if the performance drop would make it not worth the trouble....

Re: Powering two compressors with one PCM

Just hook the second compressor up to a spike relay (or, less ideally, any other speed controller if you don't have one) and toggle it in code using the pressure switch to turn it off.

As EricH...

Re: 1.1 Pump (am-3227) Really an improvement?

Not sure if you have a thermal probe handy, but is there any chance you could test heat buildup over time as well as time to cool down to room temp with those compressors? We did some testing...
