Sensor and Software Installation Presentations

Hi Gang,

I just thought I'd share a couple of presentations that I put together for the DC regional FRC workshop from last month. If you've got any questions, please drop me a not and I'll be...

Re: Electrical connectors on control system items

I'd have to second the comments about hating JST connectors. While the retention is fairly good, these connectors are nearly impossible to fabricate reliably.

The T-plug connectors are fine for...

Re: pic: REV Robotics building system

Hey Gang,

What is the load bearing capability of the 1" extrusions? That is, how does it compare with 1" square 1/8" square 6061 aluminum tube? If I've done the math correctly, the Rev extrusion...

Re: Jetson comm to RoboRIO

Sockets are simple and fast. You don't need all of the gyrations needed for network tables either. A simple client-server architecture that automatically reconnects if the connection is dropped...

Re: Tasks in C++

Can you provide a simple example of using ::std::thread that's compatible with the roborio?

TIA,

Re: Permission denied when pushing code

OK, if I manually chmod the /home/lvuser directory to 0777, then the new plug-ins work.

Next, I reformatted and reinstalled V19 firmware and then reloaded V 3.0.0F0 firmware on the RoboRIO. I...

Re: Permission denied when pushing code

Hi Brad,

Sorry, the fix didn't seem to fix the problem. I'm using the Mars.2 release of Eclipse, BTW. Here's the output of the "Run as" output:

Buildfile:...

Re: Permission denied when pushing code

OK, so based on the inputs from several on this thread, I've created a new build.xml that solves all of the permission problems and successfully deploys code from within Eclipse. I've attached it to...

Re: Permission denied when pushing code

We're seeing this same issue here at 116. I wiped out the updated Mars.1 eclipse and installed Mars.2 with the exact same results -- permission denied. I still have the original Mars.1 install...

Re: I2C working on RoboRIO

There shouldn't be. But, I haven't revisited this with the 2016 WPILib as of yet. If it works out of the box, please post that so others will benefit as well.

Thanks,

Re: Presentation on sensors in FIRST

Quite true. Especially with the infrared sensors, we've found that if you're too close, the distance is wildly inaccurate. Fortunately, many of the data sheets will warn you about this feature if...

Thanks, Omar! I think I got all of that into update #2. Hopefully, this presentation will help teams understand all of the pieces come kick-off.

Re: ANNOUNCING: navX MXP Robotics Navigation Sensor

Unfortunately, the examples fail to build in the 2016 control system betas. The compiler complains about:

"invalid new expression of abstract class type 'AHRS'" and dies a horrible death.

Re: Presentation about the 2016 control system -- UPDATED

Just going on what the folks at CTRE told me last season. They must have made an adjustment to the CAN format to be compatible. Nonetheless, given all of the options available in 2016, I would hope...
