Re: More Vision questions

Even if you do want to process every frame, the idea is that you can deal with latency by saving a snapshot of the relevant robot state at the time the image is captured, do your processing on the...

Re: More Vision questions

1. It totally depends on what you are doing. The more complicated the vision code, the more you stand to benefit from a more powerful laptop (CPU speed is the operative specification here).

2....

Re: Utilizing AM's New Wheels

I would never want to rely on a part that only lasts a match or two, as this implies that there is a good chance that the part behaves differently at the end of the match than at the beginning.

I...

Re: SD540 Motor Controller

Internal resistance is usually on the order of ~0.01 ohms for the sealed lead-acid batteries that we use.

If your battery is charged to, say, 12.7 volts and you are running 4 CIM motors at stall (=...

Re: FRC Blog - 2016 Motor Controllers

It would be awesome if the Talon SRX gets a firmware update that lets it do this (current limiting). It can already do ramping.

Re: FRC Blog - 2016 Motor Controllers

This is a very interesting study, and props to CTRE in making it easy to reproduce the test.

Assuming the motor controllers are all linear, we can calculate series resistances from the test data. ...

Re: VEXpro 2016

Any chance we could get measured RS-550 data too? It would be useful for translating prototypes or old robot mechanisms into equivalent current-season-legal designs...and also to satisfy my hunch...

Re: paper: Team 1114 2015 Code Release (Java)

I love reading code for great robots with a high level of automation. You can tell just how much time was spent optimizing everything.

One question. I noticed in your autonomous driving code, you...

Re: Do you think a practice robot is needed to compete?

One of my favorite practice bot anecdotes was in 2014, a week or so before World Championships. A bunch of California teams brought their practice bots to our field to practice. We invited some...

Re: Do you think a practice robot is needed to compete?

We build a practice bot, but we also find lots of value in building an "experiment bot" out of an old chassis. For example... (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpSgUrsghv4).

(There was also a 2015...

Re: Do you think a practice robot is needed to compete?

Sure. It is more work, and many aspects of team management are impacted by building a second bot. The Investment part of the ROI might start out being pretty large for the first year or two. But...

Re: Do you think a practice robot is needed to compete?

Of course you don't need one to compete. There are Regional Winners, Einstein teams, and (in many seasons) even World Champions that don't build them.

What a practice bot buys you is (a) extra...
