Re: Mythical Six Week Build Season

Except you can already keep building after 6 weeks if you want to! Current "stop build day" is only a stop build day if you are unwilling (or financially/logistically unable) to continue working on...

Re: Mythical Six Week Build Season

I just want to point out (again, as is annual tradition) that those who go "tools down" on "stop build day" are already making a choice. Don't pretend that you're not.

The only barriers to...

Re: Mythical Six Week Build Season

...and because the scoring mechanic underlying both minibot racing and can grabbing was a winner-take-all, asymptotic race to the bottom.

Re: Designing a "belt + roller" conveyor for balls

When 341 made extensive use of polyurethane flat belting in 2012 (and 2013), we used exclusively 1.25" OD, 1.12" ID aluminum round tubing from Online Metals for our rollers. 10 seconds on the lathe...

Re: FRC Blog - Get Ready to Make FIRST Choices

Every time I feel compelled to complain about the size of the kit of parts now versus in the past, I remember that the incredible growth in the quality, diversity, affordability, and availability of...

Re: Tem 973 Pruhzents: SKYSTALKER-ER

Re: FRC Blog - Something New - Team 'Standards'

I could not care less what the theme of the game is. A popular sport, excavating moon rocks, medieval times, waste management, or no theme at all...it's all the same to me.

What I do care about is...

Re: Registration 2016

It would also be interesting to look at these stats aggregated for each of the district areas.

I find it very interesting that Michigan continues to see 20% year-over-year growth while MAR and NE...

Re: How do you design a robot that doesn't brownout?

This is a great idea, and I recommend it to any team that has the time to implement it. I've done this in the past (2012 and 2013) and you can learn a lot about your robot and batteries by watching...

Re: Kiwi Drive and Integrating PID Loops

Answer for first part:

The code you have looks reasonable for a "standard" kiwi drive. Let's look at another way to derive the solution.

For each wheel, determine the angle of the vector formed by...

Re: pic: SPARK Motor Controller from REV Robotics

The most important metric, of course, is the number of LED colors per dollar:

REV SPARK: 0.156
Talon SR: 0.046
Victor 888: 0.043
Talon SRX: 0.050
Victor SP: 0.033
Jaguar: 0.038

Re: FRC Blog - 2016 Motor Controllers

Banebots 775s have always matched the advertised specs for us (modulo case shorting issues in 2011).

Banebots 550s have always provided substantially less torque than advertised for us.

I'd be wary to trust my academic and professional future in the hands of any college that does not recalculate GPA to normalize different scoring systems.

As engineers, we love when we can measure and quantify things. Discrimination and bias is _very_ difficult to objectively judge except in the aggregate. This is partially because those who...
