Re: LIDAR Lite Alternative

I can tell you that as a team who has looked at using one of these from a Neato robot vacuum we were given very unclear inspector decisions around powering the motor via a PWM port and its legality...

Re: Installing frc toolchain on NixOS

Hey could someone make a package for Solaris or AIX? Thanks.

Free advice (it's mostly worthless) form a mentor and a cranky old IT dude (though definitely not as cranky as some around these parts)...

Re: LIDAR Lite Alternative

Beware that is has a "motor" that might or might not be classified as a servo depending on how you power it and if the inspector has had their coffee that morning.

Re: Strange Swerve 4.0 Triple Strange 1533

I'm not on the team but it's a 1:1 ratio the way they have it setup now. Using the encoder block would result in a ratio that is not 1:1 and would then make for some complex math and silliness to...

Re: VEXpro...New for 2017?

Re: VEXpro...New for 2017?

You know what's funny about that video are the pool noodles taped the corners of the wall boxes in the background.

We had a student sit under one about a year ago and then stand up into it...

Re: Definitive Guide to Using the Jetson TK1/TX1?

It makes updating it easier because of the jetpack software and yes a VM should work without any issues as that is how I did it. Granted, I was using workstation pro on a windows host so your...

Re: Definitive Guide to Using the Jetson TK1/TX1?

So how were you running GRIP? Was it on the driver station? It's possible to run GRIP on a raspberry pi and then narrow the gap to communicate back to the robot.

The TK1 is what came via FIRST...

Re: Definitive Guide to Using the Jetson TK1/TX1?

It hasn't been done yet that I know of but I am far from an authoritative on the TX1. That being said, we released some white papers over the summer and at the end of last season discussing how we...

Re: ShopBot Desktop router up for the challenge?

Go with the ShopBot. They are local (Literally up the road in Durham), know all about FIRST and FRC, and make great tools. Give them a call, tell them you want to take a bunch of students on a tour...

Re: CANLight - A CAN based LED strip controller

As a mentor on a team that has been running CAN for a long time, I'd advise against the star topology for FRC. It might work but why risk it? Why give yourself the headache of dealing with...

Re: pic: GBX-150, CIM-mounted swerve

I'd switch the turning encoder out for one of the versa planetary integrated ones but other than that, this looks cool. Good work!

Having watched these guys develop their swerve system as well as borrowed their lessons learned as well as those from Anthony at 221, this is all really good info.

I'm not 100% convinced about...

Re: Legality of purchasing Planetary Gearboxes from alternative sources.

I honestly don't know but a simple email/phone call to support will probably tell you. Could they come from China? Yes. Do they likely source them a bit better than the random stuff on aliexpress?...
