Re: Help Calculating time to recharge air tanks
Using this tidbit (which makes sense, since it rates the compressor independent of ambient conditions and output temperature) methinks one can do a mass-conservation sort of calculation to take air...

Re: Help Calculating time to recharge air tanks
This is what I would do. Even this is slightly optimistic as the air will cool off as it flows into, and sits in, the storage tanks. Accurately modeling the compressors performance will be a bit more...

The chassis is coming together though!

We've been keeping the mills busy:

Re: Driving: Tank, Arcade or FPS?
Ken,
This is the first, and so far only, substantive argument I've heard in favor of two-stick tank drive. Congratulations!
For that maneuver, the one-side pivot, I would suggest setting the...

Re: Lifting mechanism
Draw a diagram, give us more detailed information, describe your mechanism in better detail. We want to help, but can't.
It's week 4 of build, I doubt many teams are going to try and copy your arm...

Re: Driving: Tank, Arcade or FPS?
I think it has to go beyond "trying it [drive mode] out" to where the driver(s) develop some level of proficiency. Some, like you, find it intuitive, which is quite appealing initially. But if a...

Re: Driving: Tank, Arcade or FPS?
I think that 33's experience (documented in a thread I linked earlier) is basically a microcosm of all of FRC's experience with two-stick drive. A lot of drivers think that it's intuitive at first,...

Re: Carbon Fiber
I am sure some teams will use carbon fiber and other composite parts. 95 has never been able to justify the cost of carbon fiber, but we have used fiberglass composites on occasion.
I'm a big fan...

Re: Warped yellow totes
Interesting observation. I will check ours tonight and see what it looks like!
In a few games I have pointed out game pieces that were damaged (not horribly, but still damaged) or obviously out...

Re: Driving: Tank, Arcade or FPS?
Have you found a story of any team that switched to two-stick tank from any other method of control? I can only find threads like this, where teams ditched two-stick tank for another method they...

Re: Grabbing 4 Bins from the step in Auto
I suppose that the LRI will get to determine if the mechanism is safe or not. Quickly-moving, robust, arms have been a staple of many FRC games, so I would note that precedent for similar arms...

Re: Grabbing 4 Bins from the step in Auto
Why are you making the assumption that the only viable counter-mechanism is a tape measure? Or a PVC arm?
Have you considered the possibility that a robust, strong, arm could grab a can? One that...

Re: Grabbing 4 Bins from the step in Auto
I envision horrific carnage when a 4-RC robot grabs their RCs and a single-RC robot grabs onto one of those RCs, and torques the 4-RC robot into oblivion.
Grabbing multiple RC's does seem like a...

Re: Driving: Tank, Arcade or FPS?
It doesn't seem like you read the thread... what you call "RC car drive" is what is commonly know as "FPS" control. Other control methods, including single-stick arcade (with a gimbal stick), provide...

Re: Should You Get Totes From Landfill
I strongly disagree. I think that having totes that are largely restrained from movement, in a known orientation, with a back-stop on at least two sides, will be much easier to pick up that a lose...

Re: Driving: Tank, Arcade or FPS?
While that may be in improvement over two 2-axis joysticks, it still doesn't deal with the difference in dexterity between the driver's two hands. They will almost always have better dexterity with...

Re: Driving: Tank, Arcade or FPS?
As a (relatively) old-school driver I liked single-stick arcade control for FRC robots. This typically works best with a real gimbal'd joystick, where the driver can 'feel' center on the stick. Most...

Re: Team 95 Hard At Work - 2015
The main chassis plates are #10awg sheet metal, 0.100in. It is probably a little overkill for this year, but on the other hand we get the material for free and we were able to remove a lot of it for...

Re: Team 95 Hard At Work - 2015
Assembly progressed reasonably well with the robot's chassis.
An inside view of one of the drive pods. I was pleased to learn that a 10-32 Riv-Nut flange does a good job of locating the 7/16 hex...
