Re: FRC 95, The Grasshoppers, Build Thread

An end-of-build update.

We bagged a nominally functional robot. All of our features work, except for vision tracking (due to inadequate LED illumination, mostly).

Here we are testing with a ring...

Re: #25 Chain

We use, and love, Chain Saver as a chain and open-gear lubricant.

Can be found in may places, powered by the...

Re: Bang-bang using Talon-SRX and PID for a Shooter

All valid points, of course!

Perhaps the more useful parameter is the lower throttle limit, which would slow any oscillations in the system.

Re: Bang-bang using Talon-SRX and PID for a Shooter

Seconded.

Also, bang-bang control doesn't have to modulate speeds from 0-1. One could modulate from 0.8-0.9, for example.

Re: #25 Chain

The recommended working load of #25HD is around 90lbf. This is fine to exceed for shorter lifespans, but with the tiny sprockets teams are running this year...

In round numbers:

8in wheel...

Re: Withholding Allowance

I was really peeved when I first read that a team had brought two robots (note the un-capitalized usage). But then I read through this thread and arrived at the conclusion that what the Zebracorns...

Re: #25 Chain

I would argue that if you can make a drive unit rigid enough to not mis-align gears, and precisely enough to enable proper gear meshing, then you can make a drive that can easily handle...

Re: #25 Chain

As a team that has successfully implemented #25 chain in numerous situations, including both drive-trains and serious arm mechanisms, we switched to #35 this year for our drive after snapping #25 a...

Re: Top 5 teams for your state over the last 4 years

All of Vermont has:

95
885
2370
2523

So, I have to go with every team being in the top 5. :ahh:

Re: Mentors not wanting to stay

3 mentors is not enough to effectively run a team. You'll want to pull more mentors into the fold and find a way to get mentors personally invested in your team.

I don't know how your team...

Re: Is Defense Back in a Big (Bad) Way?

I am interested to see how the lack of 'tall' robots impacts defensive play this year. It strikes me that a box with a stick or a box with a wall will be a very effective non-chassis-contacting...

Re: 4403 Teaser: Cirowheels

What happens if someone t-bones your robot?

Does the flexibility of the wheels allow your robot to violate the bumper rules?

Re: FRC 95, The Grasshoppers, Build Thread

It's been a long couple of days...

Re-chained our drive pods with #35 chain in a night. Remarkably we were able to make everything fit.

Re: FRC 95, The Grasshoppers, Build Thread

Last night we got our shoulder joint hooked up, but found that we couldn't hold tension properly in the chain, so we'll be working to improve that tonight.

We also got our long-awaited pneumatic...

Re: FRC 95, The Grasshoppers, Build Thread

What about slamming down causes chains to break in your estimation? (I mean this as an honest question, not a sarcastic one)

Re: Next tools for 5940's machine shop

Depends on what construction style you want to go after... The total effectiveness of a shop is not in the sum of the tools inside of it, but how those tools and the people work together to deliver a...

Re: Are these tanks legal?

Not too dive off into the weeds too far... but I recall years (2010?) where zip-ties were specifically prohibited from being used to mount storage tanks. That practice does appear to be legal this...

Re: Are these tanks legal?

To answer OP: you need the proper documentation to prove the parts' pressure ratings to an inspector. Cut and dried IMO.

I did a hefty amount of research into this a few years ago. There were a...
