Re: Were to store practice bot at regional?
I'd think so.
I know you are, but someone has to be the devil's advocate (just not the devil's lawyer). ;)
I wouldn't lock up parts in the shop, or lock up the shop. I think it should be an...

Re: Were to store practice bot at regional?
In my opinion the spirit of the rule is to artificially limit (i.e. through the honor system) each team to 45lbs of pre-fab stuff that they have selected before they unbag their robot. I don't care...

Re: Were to store practice bot at regional?
I'll give you a hypothetical with some hyperbole.
Team A and Team B build the same robot. Both robots have a critical flaw in them that breaks in their first match on Friday.
Team A is from a...

Re: Were to store practice bot at regional?
In my opinion that would be okay, provided that the team could prove that those parts weigh less than 45lbs.
The 45lbs of witholding allowance isn't allowing you to use up to 45lbs of any pre-fab...

Re: Were to store practice bot at regional?
That's not what I'm saying. Please don't overreact until you understand what I mean.
I'm saying that you will be under the honor system that you've pre-selected your 45lbs of withholding and won't...

Re: Were to store practice bot at regional?
Yes.
Do all of your competitors have the same ability? Otherwise it gives you an exceedingly unfair advantage. This is also why the rules prohibit working on any robot parts outside of the pit area.

Re: Were to store practice bot at regional?
This is the core of why bringing a practice bot and stripping off parts is illegal.
The rule says: At an Event, Teams may have access to a static set of FABRICATED ITEMS that shall not exceed 45...

Re: Joystick vs. Controller?
I cannot understand why people want to use two joysticks to drive a tank-style robot. Why require a driver to do all of the math to control the robot in their head when you can use the cRIO to do it?...

Re: Joystick vs. Controller?
Driver preference. Though I will say that this year we have implemented a drive controls transform and scaling on a single xbox controller stick and it's the best-driving robot our team has ever made.

GSDE Update
We had a very fun time at the GSDE, with a disappointing run in eliminations.
As posted we had some carnage and a few things that broke and/or needed more fine tuning, but nothing really...

Re: What do you think of the game?
Third-ed.
It is a very difficult game to play because the three drive teams have to be so synchronous with each other. Ego and over-confidence are killers, as is distraction.
With our heavy...

Re: Let's See Your Robot's Battle Scars
Beat me to my own post! :yikes:
Nothing some 2x2x1/8in angle couldn't fix. Still though, watching a chunk of your robot fly off after a hit is... disconcerting.

Re: 10 point goal versus 1 point goal
I had a hard time explaining to many other drive teams that a "pass-> truss+catch -> 1pt goal" (51pts) cycle was a far better option than "pass->pass -> high goal" (40pts) cycle. It can even be...

Our carwash mounts have been beat to heck given the game play. Fortunately we had anticipated this situation, and made stronger kitty-based replacements.

Re: 10 point goal versus 1 point goal
With only one shooter and a slow ground-loading rookie (I think?) we scored 144 points in a qualification match with 1pt goals. Triple assists plus truss catches rack up the points super fast.

Re: Need advice on motors, gearboxes, and ESCs
I'm sure that I'm a little late to this party... but having a bit of experience with this sort of project I figured I'd throw my $0.02 in.
Have you considered retro-fitting a large-scale RC to suit...

Re: Banebots innovative wheels
This says nothing about the CoF of plain vs ball bearings. It seems as if they were writing about plastic vs metallic plain bearings. The word "ball" doesn't appear on the page...
