Re: 3481 Teaser Photos of 2015 EL TORO

:D

In your arm structure I notice that there are no triangles, only quadrilaterals. Thus the structures strength and stiffness is driven largely by the joints of the structures and not the beams...

Re: Robotics beyond High School

^ What they said.

FSAE, for me, was a natural extension of FRC. It (and other SAE programs) is/are the next step(s) in 'competitive engineering' challenges.

If you think being behind the glass in...

Re: 3481 Teaser Photos of 2015 EL TORO

Not bad at all. Though I would think that if you did have an ME on your team he or she would have suggested that you do something to triangulate your arm structure. ;)

What is your 'slide' geared...

Re: Division by average

Must I really repeat myself with a post that you quoted? What point are you trying to make that I haven't already acknowledged?

Edit: I don't mean this to come off too harsh. I would like the...

Re: Division by average

There is a big difference in principle. In one case up to 5 other teams (per match) are being directly affected by one team's actions without any choice in the matter. In the other case one team is...

Re: Division by average

You are correct.

Look, I'm not arguing that the logistics of making it happen are practical. I am only saying that if divisions were sorted this way, and they know about it, then it opens up a...

Re: Division by average

I don't disagree with you, but that won't stop some teams from trying, which is counter-productive to the competition.

Every team would be able to pull it off given TBA's data.

Unless I'm missing something here...

Re: Division by average

That makes more sense. Although anything besides 'random' will likely result in some teams trying to throw matches in order to try and get into a particular division.

Re: Division by average

Can you please elaborate?

If you intend to have robots with similar average scores in the same division I think that is a very bad idea. It will stack (ha!) one division with very good robots and...

Re: Team Corruption - Advice Urgently Needed

You do not deserve to be treated so horribly, but it will continue as long as you allow it to happen. There are two options I see at the moment:

(1) If you are officially affiliated with a school...

Re: Firing two solenoids together

[R41] B

Spikes are the only relay modules allowed. Maximum operating voltage is 16V. Methinks that might not end well.

Re: Firing two solenoids together

Several mechanical control valves could be ganged together and switched by a solenoid. No 24V required.

Or, simply use 12V solenoids: http://www.mcmaster.com/#61975k55/=vy77am

Re: Low tech robot numbers aren't that easy

Well... I'd think that 1/2in wide black electrical tape would get the job done... But hey, I'm just a mechanical guy, not a graphical designer.

Re: Fans from the PCM?

Consider the intent of the 'motors must be connected through controllers' rule. It is there to stop mechanisms from moving when the robot is disabled. It is a safety concern and a game-play concern....

Thanks Al, will submit a Q&A.

Re: Mentor/Student Involvement Philosophies

Well, apparently I'm a squawker, and my team makes virtually all of our parts in-house. Occasionally I'll make a part in my garage. We have no in-kind machining sponsors, CNC or otherwise. We never...
