Re: ethernet cable type

This is probably the best option, it is not a critical application. If you find that the tether no longer works, you can just change it out for another.

Re: Bringing Wood Across the Border

That's a good suggestion, but it will most likely be easier for them to build the robot add-on at their shop/home, rather than have the inconvenience of having to do it at the event with limited time...

Re: Bringing Wood Across the Border

So you are planning to build an add-on to put on your robot at the competition? Your robot is currently in transit?

If it is for a robot part, I would suggest building it out of metal or plastic if...

Re: Bringing Wood Across the Border

If you choose not to declare it even though it is allowed with declaration, it is a very good way to have your crate delayed( it might not get to Champs in time) and to lose your wooden items,...

Re: Driver Station/Operator Console Power

No, you couldn't put a small generator on your driver station. But you could have a small inverter ( I think you mean this).

I'll need to verify with the manual, but I think that it is fine to bring...

Re: Tool crate shipping and logistics

Any reason you can't just put your tools and other smaller parts into suitcases? You just need to make sure that your cordless tool batteries go into your hand luggage.

I really think that if your...

Re: Why it is sometimes hard to be a student on CD.

From my experiences I don’t think it is particularly hard to be a student on CD, you just need to realise where you are capable of contributing to the discussion effectively and the areas in which...

Re: [FUN] Recap and FRCTop25 with FRC118 Justin Ridley 4/11

The main reasons that the grappling hook method used by 118 is so effective, is that the whole system is light. But also that it is quick to activate. Being able to climb quickly is highly important...

Re: TIG Welder at Worlds

ARC/MIG/TIG welders run just fine off the standard household powerpoint (240v@10amp) in Australia. Maybe there wouldn't be able to get enough current to do larger jobs, but I've never had any...

It's isn't too uncommon to find power sockets in outside areas, in Sydney anyway. Long extension cable? :)

We haven't particularly damaged any boulders during build or practise. One of our boulders has a few thin slices, but nothing particularly noticeable. Our practise field is in an old drama room with...

Re: Right Angle Adapter for VersaPlanetary Gearbox

It would have to be steel or titanium otherwise it would fail easily because of the torque. It would be even weaker than the CIM motor output shaft, which fails at 29 N-m.

I hope that VEXpro will...

Re: TIG Welder at Worlds

The trouble is that at Champs there aren't exactly a lot of outside areas which would be suitable for welding in. Because of the amount of people inside and outside the venue, I don't think it would...

Re: TIG Welder at Worlds

The machine shop run by NASA at champs is really good, they have TIG welding equipment among a lot of other things. They won't let you do the welding yourself, but you can just show the guys what you...

Yes, it could potentially be a problem. The Inverse Square Law says that the light intensity will greatly decrease with distance, and the audience is usually a reasonable distance from the field....

Re: Did you make a second robot? [POLL]

In 2015 we built two robots in sequence, but they were completed within a close timeframe of each other. We did not really decide which robot we would bag until the last week or two of build season....

Re: Is a Pneumatic hook launcher legal?

Sadly it is illegal. To me it seems like it is operating as a single direction pneumatic piston. No custom pistons or modifications to any COTS pneumatic components such as pistons are allowed.

Also...
