Re: Solidworks Workgroup PDM workflow and tips

865 used GrabCAD in 2014 and we had tons of issues. The plug in was difficult to install and would crash regularly and we had issues with the model downloading correctly. We gave up on it halfway...

For comparison we found our custom 30A durometer urethane wheels to have about the same or slightly better traction than orange banebot wheels. The BB wheels are aerated rubber not urethane.

Solidworks Workgroup PDM workflow and tips

I'm planning on using Workgroup PDM this year for collaborating on CAD and we don't really have time to learn the ins and out of the system. I have the software setup and configured but I was...

Re: Buying Pneumatic Rivet Gun

I don't think the CFM requirements are really as high as the instructions entail. I have the absolute crappiest compressor you can buy, rated at .7 CFM at 90 PSI (I think it was even worse in...

I've run it off our robot's pneumatic system a couple of times at competition. You will just need to add a couple air tanks and you should be fine.

You should be fine, a CNC plasma uses far more flow than a rivet gun.

Re: How to train students in SolidWorks

Lynda.com has a couple hundred good solidworks tutorials. It's a paid service but a lot of schools and public libraries will give you access for free.

Re: Strongest Regionals/District 2016?

Additionally, 2056 lost 2/3rds of their non IRI off seasons. While there's a huge difference between on season and off season, they're human and have the ability to lose just like everyone else.

4678 used one this year with 3D printed gears and gearbox. If I remember correctly they managed to print a gear that matches the pinion permanently attached to the motor. Maybe one of their members...

Re: Buying Pneumatic Rivet Gun

I takes a lot of effort but it can be done with the included wrench. What happens when air is applied currently? They usually come pre filled.

The only issue we've had with the gun is the nose...

Count the robots on the blue alliance, count them again once the match starts.
We managed to get a -4.2 OPR that regional.

What I would give to...

Re: Show off Your Machining! 2014

Nothing crazy machining wise but this assembly was designed and machined in just over 2 hours. The delrin bushing was machined in that time too. I was pretty proud of how fast we were able to iterate...

Re: Do you think a practice robot is needed to compete?

The intention was illegal. Shafts if cut are not COTS. If the DuraOmni has been assembled with a sprocket or a hub it is no longer COTS.

I'm not advocating a xcarve/shapeoko solution. But check out the shapeoko 3 if you have not. It is significantly more rigid.

Re: Building a robotics lab

A manual lathe is very often more useful than a CNC lathe in FRC. Most FRC turning operations are just cutting stock to length.
