Re: Mythical Six Week Build Season

There are already teams that avoid week 1 events. Some do it because they don't like being "guinea pigs" for a new game. Others do it because they want more time. 1712 falls in the latter category....

Re: FRC Blog - Get Ready to Make FIRST Choices

Am I blind, or is there no RoboRIO option? :(

Re: Mythical Six Week Build Season

I would love to hear the perspectives of FTC and VRC teams on this line of thought. They have an even larger competition window and much more affordable robots, making strategies like this even more...

It's probably about time we had this discussion again. For reference, here are a couple previous discussions on similar...

Re: FIRST Brand Refresh

You would have to ask FIRST, but my assumption would be that the banners will spell out "FIRST Robotics Competition"

Re: FIRST Brand Refresh

The FIRST Robotics Competition ("FRC" is no longer going to be used by FIRST ) only gives out banners for Chairman's, Woodie Flowers Finalists, and event winners. There's no official Rookie...

Re: FRC Blog - Something New - Team 'Standards'

While diameter is most frequently associated with circles, it is not exclusive to circles.

Re: Flex-Grip Wheels

I've been curious about these in the past, but unable to get past the sticker shock. $29+ is a lot for an intake wheel, especially when compared to something like the Banebots wheels. Does anyone...

Re: Most matches for a robot?

1640's 2015 robot has 91 matches listed on TBA, but TBA is missing it competing in Ramp Riot, Duel on the Delaware, and MidKnight Mayhem. They might have competed elsewhere, as well. Definitely north...

Re: Pneumatics off board recharge packs

What modification would that be? Almost all of this device would have to be redesigned to be competition legal (under 2015 rules). You'd have to both remove the air storage and change the electrical...

Re: Designing a "belt + roller" conveyor for balls

I'm a little puzzled at the need for a specially designed clutch in an intake system (especially a belted one). It seems a lot simply to design your system to slip before it stalls your motor,...

Re: Pneumatics off board recharge packs

My guess would be, since it's not controlled by the robot (once again, <R69>), and thus not limited by the pressure switch, they fill those tanks beyond 120psi. They probably use that final pressure...

Re: Team vehicles - who has one?

1712 typically uses a handicapped-accessible schoolbus (provided by the district) for transporting both our team and robot. We load the robot and tools on via the wheelchair elevator.

If the...

Re: Designing a "belt + roller" conveyor for balls

IIRC, slightly more than 1.9" (OD of Sc40 1.5" PVC).

Going into further detail, we then wrap the 1.5" PVC with shelf liner. We create our spacers/grooves by using rings of 2" PVC over that assembly....

Re: 2016 NASA Grant Announcement Day

Where you're located? Okay, I'll accept your word for it.
In certain other areas, it might not be. There are plenty of teams that don't have the abundance of local businesses and resources in the...

Re: On being rude ...

As notmattlythgoe mentioned, I did not give Foster's post in this thread a red dot. I gave his post in another thread (the one that Foster quoted and that was brought up in the couple posts leading...

I didn't neg rep Foster because I disagree with Foster. I neg repped Foster because of the tone of Fosters' response.

Re: On being rude ...

Blake,

If someone shot you an e-mail or PM with such a question, sure, respond in a short fashion according to your own time limits.

However, this is a public forum. If you don't have time to...

Re: On being rude ...

Asking for an answer to a question without searching or consulting the manual before hand can be rude or lazy. But a rude/lazy post doesn't mean you have to give them a rude/lazy reply.

Re: On being rude ...

I red dotted Foster's post, and I'd do it again to another individual who posted in the same fashion.

Was there useful information in there? Sure (though some of it was only half-true).
Was it...

Re: FRC Blog - Get Ready to Make FIRST Choices

The counterpoint is it's harder to place your "real money" orders early in build season if you don't know what you're getting from FIRST choice. Also, the parts will show up later (obviously).

Re: FRC Blog - Something New - Team 'Standards'

If we're spinning empty rhetoric, what evidence is there that "bubble" doesn't exist around those who feel that FRC isn't "cool" enough?

"Geeky" and "nerdy" are trendier than ever. Video games have...

Re: FRC Blog - Something New - Team 'Standards'

If only more people were able to look past the medieval/fantasy themes and enjoy Game of Thrones. Perhaps then it would be recognized. It's a pity it's shoved into the corner as "too nerdy" for...
