Re: Eliminating "Start Build Day"

This is 100% not "trolling." While this thread was obviously meant as a parallel to Stop Build Day discussions, it is meant to be legitimately discussed. That's not to say I 100% support removing...

Eliminating "Start Build Day"

Yes, I know "Start Build Day" is actually called Kickoff.

This is an idea that's been kicking around in my head for a while. I had intended to create a post during the "Eliminate Stop Build Day"...

Re: Rev More Board and Nav-X

FWIW, the NavX can be connected via usb to the roboRio, allowing for use of the NavX sensors and a different expansion board.

Re: pic: High Traction Drivetrain Concept

The resistance your robot is going to be able to give is related to the amount of friction your robot has to resist that force. When it comes to lateral force, it's obvious that an omni wheel is...

Re: Let's Talk About Scouting

We record data on paper sheets, which are then collected and input to a laptop.

We primarily track objective figures that can be turned into statistics about teams. For 2016 that meant tracking...

Re: Registration 2017

Polite request for a moderator to once again move the bulk of the posts in this thread to the FIRST Server Issues thread, so that the Registration 2017 thread can remain about its primary topic. :)

Re: Registration 2017

District registration tends to be less restrictive, as teams are bound to their own district and don't have to worry about far away teams competing for their spots. FiM and PNW also have assigned...

Re: Sponsor can we morally seek sponsorship from a brewery

While I perfectly understand the moral objections to defense contractors in a vacuum, I think there's a pretty obvious difference in terms of practical differences between a defense contractor and a...

Re: [FRC Blog] FIRST Robotics Competition Registration Update

I don't think anyone is proposing to get rid of the reserve capacity for regionals. Giving the RDs some flexibility and discretion regarding who gets into their event helps ensure that late...

Re: [FRC Blog] Veteran Team Drive Base Option and Registration Progress

Wouldn't read that much into it yet. A drivebase with no manipulator could accomplish elements of gameplay in 2016 (crossing some defenses).

Re: How are teams mounting drivetrain encoders on WCD?

A couple quick notes on those pictures.

The one prominanetly displayed there was actually used with a VersaBlock we had on a manipulator joint, rather than our drivetrain. We didn't intend to have...

Re: Single vs Multiple Speed Gearbox

In my experience, I've found very little absolute need for two speed gearboxes. In the seasons I've been on teams that have had them, the driver very seldom felt the need to shift gears. Based on...

Re: Registration 2017

Perhaps a "silent auction" type of system. Each team is given a budget of X points to allocate among events they want to attend. Single event teams can dump all of their points into their local event...

Re: STEM vs. STEAM

What really separates "STEAM" from a "general education?" STEM has a clear focus on a set of subjects and career fields. I feel broadening that to STEAM causes the focus to become blurred and poorly...

Re: Drive Coaching

There seem to be two real components to your question- "How to train drivers?" and "How can the drive coach add to this process?"

In terms of training drivers, nothing beats experience. The more...
